Default Why can I recruit Gallic cavalry everywhere but Italy?

I play the mod Imp II.

However, what I'm asking wasn't done by the modder.

IIRC, even on vanilla you can recruit Gallic infantry/cavalry in Africa and you can also get them somewhere in/around the Thracia and/or Dacia regions of the campaign map.

I'm 98.5+% positive that this is the case.

Facetiously speaking: Shouldn't there be a few clans that lingered around the border of Etruria? I mean, I can get Gallic mercs in Africa and way the heck out in the back of beyond, but not right next door? I know it's Rome: Total Realism, isn't it realistic to expect a few Gauls to be available in Italy since they're everywhere else?

Firstly, are you talking about gallic aor units or gallic mercenaries? It`s a different thing. You can train the first, but you can only buy the latters, with a family member.
In vanilla RTRPE the regions with aor_gaul are the ones in Gaul, northern part of the Italic peninsula(north of etruria), celtiberia in Iberia, Galatia in Asia Minor, Thrace in the Balcans and region at the border with the germanic provinces.
The mercenaries on the other hand are available on a far wider area(true, excluding central and southern italic peninsula). In Africa they are available to give the carthaginians access to the mercenaries they historically used. They take longer to replenish, cost more and have less experience than in their home area iirc. Problem is that this only works well if you play with Carthage. The ai will probably not recruit them and they weren`t placed there so that you can recruit them with the romans.

As for the reason why this was done, I doubt the persons responsible with the decission or the ones who have implemented it are still around. Probably not for years. And RTRPE tried not to go into corrections of this sort so there won`t be any changes like these coming.

But, of course it is very easy to change it yourself so feel free to. To make the gallic units available as aor you need to add the aor_gaul resource in descr_regions for the regions you want and to make them recruitable as merc you need to copy them under the two italic pools.

As I said I wasn't actually complaining or anything. It's just weird, even if historically accurate, that Gallic cavalry would be available all over the map except the province next door...

Carthage can recruit a lot of mercenaries in Africa, from gauls to iberians. I like it, and it's quite historical.
