    Default Sprites

Is there any way to completely remove (or very much minimize) the use of the sprites for distant troops? I know it's a matter of PC performance balance, but the effect of mass troops is really lost in the blobby sprites. Any suggestions?

You could try changing the texture filter option. I don't think there's a way to really remove the sprites out right.

    There is.

You can put the unit details on a higher option in the .cfg file than the game actually shows.
Change unit detail to highest in the M2TW .cfg and you're set. I can't check if I am 100% accurate now because I'm not at home.

Yeah, tested it, without smth near 8800 or 3870 in big battles you'll always get not more 15 fps.

It does work, but my performance went straight to hell. Hope your rig can pull it off, because it looks beautiful!

Dang I was hoping I could do it, but your build is slightly better than mine. I have the same specs, except for an E2180 at 3.1 GHz.

There is another way from what has been suggested but it'll take a bit of work. If you go into the modeldb file you'll see that for every entry you'll see several (usually four) lines detailing the model each unit uses, such as this:

    Code:
    62 unit_models/_Units/ME_Nubian_Padded/sudanese_gunners_lod0.mesh 121
    62 unit_models/_Units/ME_Nubian_Padded/sudanese_gunners_lod1.mesh 900
    62 unit_models/_Units/ME_Nubian_Padded/sudanese_gunners_lod2.mesh 2500
    62 unit_models/_Units/ME_Nubian_Padded/sudanese_gunners_lod3.mesh 6400
The number at the end of each line is the distance at which the game engine switches to the next, lower-detail model. The number for the last entry (lod3) is the distance at which the game switches to using sprites. What you would want to do is to increase that number for every model in the game. Luckily for you 6400 is the standard number so you should be able to do a find and replace to increase this number for all units.

This will result in the game only switching to sprites at a much greater distance but it will still use them which will (hopefully) not give as big a hit to the game performance.
