    Default Crusades vs the excommunicated

It happens every game. After the initial crusade against Egypt, the next several called are against the capitol of an excommunicated faction. I am playing the Byzantines, so I cannot influence the target, obviously.

Is there a file to change the crusade preference to actual muslim strongholds? or at the very least, the Lithuanians? I do not like seeing the armies of west converge on Paris or the HRE capitol, and basically crippling that faction. IMO, crusades should constantly be launched at Jerusalem for at least the first 100 turns. It is virtually never in Christian hands in my game, so there is no reason to keep ignoring it and see the west fight among itself.

Hmm, If that could be modded somehow, only to be able to launch crusades on the Holy Land, then I would be very interested. But I think it's hardcoded, as almost everything in the game engine, so I don't know...

The Jihads so far in SS have made sense, but the Crusades are lacking. KOJ vanished within 4 turns of appearing ( I used the sub mod), and Egypt has held Jerusalem ever since. The Templars are hard pressed around Antioch, and apparently the Turks are more interested in annihilating them than defending against my Byzantine offensive. Crusades into this area would certainly make the game more interesting.

im using lusted's updated ai mod for the campaign map and KOJ is totally owning the egyptians taking over about 4 of their settlements. the reason for this is because a jihad has never been called on jerusalem and im in my 56 turn so far.

As far as I know, the only thing you can change is the list of initial targets for crusade/jihads in descr_regions.txt. But once the campaign actually starts, if someone gets excommunicated then they are added to the list too. I think the only option would be if there is something that can be put in the AI's decision making to make it less likely to target an excommunicee and preference muslim settlements. But having absolutely no experience with AI, I have no idea if that is possible or not :hmmm:

I'm using Lusted's files as well. I am just worried at the lack of turkish troops sent against my Byzantines so far.

If someone could mod this that would be amazing. It annoys me to see a "crusade" against fellow Christians. It doesn't really make any sense. The crusades were meant to wrest the Holy Lands from the Muslims, not sack Paris.

Plus like Darviathar said, when a crusade is called against a Christian faction that faction is completely boned from that point on. They're going to lose an important city, and half of Europe will join the crusade pitting them against everyone. With Lusteds AI file the more people you're at war with, the less likely someone will make peace with you. :/

Well actually the excomminicated kingdoms are technically not Christian, they are heretics, hence the crusade. But I dont really like it that much either. But one problem. In 5.1 i always had to request a crusade, even the first one, for any to be called, I havnt had the Pope declare a crusade more than once in any modded since I began playing over a year ago. So does 6.1 solve this? Are the crusades being called more frequently?

a lot depends on how quickly the human player calls them (if playing catholic nation) also how many catholic factions are still alive and have sufficient standing with Pope to call a crusade.

But I haven't noticed a lack of crusades or jihads for that matter in my current campaign.

In my french campaign I took Jeruzalem 2 times on a crusade and gave it to the templars along with some other cities. A full templar army spawned in the city, but not even then they were able to hold on for it more than 4 turns or so. Then it rebels and Egypt takes it back. Then I crusade again. And so on.

Actually this was not unheard of at all. Popes called all sorts of endeavors 'crusades' look at the one against Manfred, the successor to Fredrick 'Stupor Mundi' (One of the coolest guys in history hands down) in Sicily.
They were, for the most part, how the game details, short sweet rabblesome armies seeking an excuse to carve out lands/ plunder for themselves.

I would say make internal crusades happen less often, and make the capitals of excommunicated factions lesser priority targets, e.g. if muslims have jerusalem the pope will favour this. For the player to request a crusade against another excommunicated catholic faction he needs FULL papal support (maxed out crosses).

    Yay or Nay?

Yay, it's true that first crusade is against lithuania or jereusalem but yea the rest so far have been excommunicated factions. Like.. I never saw a crusade against Spain in history..
