patch 1.3 error

I've been trying to reinstall Medieval 2 but it won't let me because it says "This setup has detected that version 1.03.000 Medieval 2: Total War was already installed. this setup installs an earlier version of Medieval 2: Total War (1.00.0000). You will have to uninstall the previous before installing this version" when trying to install even though I can't find version 1.3 anywhere on my computer. does anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks.

Did you uninstall the game correctly?

Try uninstalling it from the controll panel instead of the thing that pops up when you insert the cd
