    Default Diplomacy

Well, I'm currently deciding on what mod to play for RTW. I was wondering if this mod puts much of an emphasis on diplomacy? In other words, are alliances actually meaningful unlike vanilla, are betrayals still very common? I've looked all over the forums for which reasons as to which mod mod I should download etc...so in your opinion why should I consider this mod?

Most of the diplomacy is hardcoded, so all mods are mostly the same in the diplomacy department. But there is a force diplomacy mod so you can be as realistic as you want with it.

As to why you choose this mod, it is mostly a mod to the roman fans, with all 35 legions and auxilia units, with new buildings and factions, though all the factions have reskins and new units, etc and its personally my favourite, but donwload it and try it, your sure to like it.

Well, not much can be done for the diplomacy in any mod, too much of it is hardcoded, however there is much more that this mod can offer.

Among them is the unique free peoples system, so that the rebels on the campaign map actually appear to fight each other and, what's more, actually pose a threat to the player if you leave borders undefending. Add into this a dynamic and fairly realistic economic situation tied to expansion and the representation of less known factions (Syracuse, Cimmerian-Bosporans, Epiros, Pergamum) and you have a fun and historically accurate (although it doesn't sacrifice gameplay for historicity, like some mods do) mod which is highly replayable and will only get better with the release of RS2.

Although I'm a team member, so don't just take my word for it, we have a large and loyal fan base who enjoy this mod for all its features and a friendly and helpful community!

Damn, that last paragraph sounded cheesy.

This mod is not just for Rome fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a Carthage fan, and this mod has the best Carthage units period, the city hoplites are great too, and its a fun mod that is hard, but doesn't sacrifice playability for difficulty. its my favorite mod i have installed, of like 10 that i have played.
Life goes on, and Carthage keeps killing Romani like its nothing.

I'd say it's a bit easier to keep you allies in RS than in most other mods - even without forced diplomacy. Since you make so much more money in RS, you can afford to offer gifts of 2-3,000 every turn. This combined with a decent army on you border tends to keep the AI from betraying me, I've found.

That is not usually the case, In my roman campaign i landed on sicily to find carthage was destroying sicily, they had like 200 men spared in 2 cities, so i forced diplomacy on sicily, gifted them like 50k denarri, and 5k a turn denarii for like 10 turns, and they build up, i destroyed carthage, and sicily - them sons of es turned on me even when i was still paying them tribute, and i had like 3 legions in sicily, sometimes the ai is just way too stupid

My alliances ( I'm not using forced diplomacy) rarely fail. But when they do it's usually because of:
I have a common border with that faction. ( they want to expand )
I strand an army in their territory. ( That would anger most )
:hmmm: If attacked by another faction they're also allied with, they choose the other side.

But if your paying them tribute, that's usually viewed as a sign of weakness. So the AI probably figures you are a target.
