    Default A Novel Idea

Just had a thought earlier. You know the event, Mongol emissary/diplomat is killed, etc, etc and all the things leading up to their invasion?

What if the Kwarzm player is given the event option of not doing that and actually embracing trade with the Mongols? This would stop their invasion altogether, or maybe delay it for a few more years? I could see it giving the Kwar player a hefty economic bonus for about 7 or 8 turns, then the Mongols come anyway. This ofcourse would be an option only given to the player, not the AI.

Do not appease the infidels brother!! They are nomadic upstarts not worth considering our equals. Look at Tashkent and Samarkhand. Look at how advanced our civilisation is! They are nothing! Behead the emissary! Now let this "Genghis" come to us!

    Haha.

Mongol HA: You said they would greet us as liberators!
Khan: When? Before or after I claimed that we were a punishment from god and that we were going to utterly destroy them?
Mongol HA: Ohhhh, yeah. I remember now.

They would still destroy stuff even if you surrender. The Nizaris (Hashashin) surrendered to Timor, and that was when Alamut was razed to the ground - they went in, marveled at the irrigation and libraries and gardens, then tore it all down stone by stone. That was done PEACABLY!

An alternate option would be to negotiate a surrender to the Mongols - there is no war and they let you live, except they raze most of your buildings and raid your treasury.

I had almost the same idea. Albeit a bit deeper.

My idea is basically around 1219 you get a scroll stating mongol emissaries have come to offer peace and friendship and ask you if you wish to accept or behead the emissaries. The scroll will quote Genghis' actual words he sent to the Shah calling him a "son" (ie patronizing). If you click yes, you will buy some time but your faction leader will lose a lot of authority. However, having pressed yes, a few turns later a new scroll will popup telling you that new mongol emissaries have arrived and now demand that you pay huge a tribute to the mongol empire and accept vassalage. Clicking yes will result in a massive bleeding of cash, turn by turn, and a huge drop to your leader's authority.

Additionally clicking yes will result in your border provinces having frequent and high unrest (ie mongol spies causing ruckus). And eventually a few turns later the mongols will invade anyways.

If you click "no" to any of the Qs, that means you're beheading the emissaries and the mongol invasions will begin in earnest.

So basically you have 2 choices:
    1) Delay the Mongol invasions at the loss of authority, coin, prestige, increased unrest.
    2) Click X and bring em on ASAP.

Additionally I will script these questions to be presented to either Khwarezm, Seljuks, Ghazni, Ghorids or Abbasids - depending on who dominates the key Transoxanian settlements.

If you play any other faction, the Mongols will come like normal.

This is all for 2.0 btw.

I'd like that a lot, simulated history a lot more. I'd give you rep if the administration didn't think it hilarious to limit my repping abilities.

Are there popups for when a faction's capital is sacked by the Mongols? I think it'd be cool to have a little box pop up at the next turn, with the news and also a few paragraphs about what happened in history. I'd do them if no one else was interested...

Ah, great minds think a like. That was exactly what I had in mind, I just wanted to get the general idea out first.

Sounds hot. I should keep shooting into the bushes in hopes of nailing another awesome future feature like this.

Yeah, Mongols sacking different cities can have popups.

There is one for Mongols when they sack Baghdad in BC 1.0. Too bad the AI doesn`t get that far.. But hopefully if we add the Ilkhanate into 2.0 then that will be much more likely.

I think its very important to have the Mongol invasions in BC, one way or the other.

Well, those extra turns of stalling could allow you, with a citadel, to raise a few last minute stacks.

I think if you press X at any time before you are totally wussed out, you should recoup some of that lost authority. Maybe even if you try to talk it out at the very beginning, then see that there is no reasoning with them you could even get a bonus because you were showing good leadership skills.

Ah, also, whatever faction that defeats the Mongols should get a global reputation bonus and their leader authority.

Plus people that didn't read this thread will be like 'All right!' Then a few turns later.. "Damn them!"

    And we will laugh.

This is a really cool feature, though. Perfect for if you need to finish up a war or move armies around.
