Help game is running slow with 6.1

Does anybody have any ideas on how to speed the game up in 6.1. I heard Byg's Grim reality added like 45,000 new scripts and would slow the game down alot so I removed that. It helped alot but the game is still slow. I am just running 6.1 with RR. Also I have a very high end PC (so that cant be the problem)

Are you sure you removed it? I had to reinstall SS 6.0 and re-apply the patch without Bryg to get the game running at the normal pace again. is that what you did?

Depends on which part of the game is running slow. If the campaign map lags, turn off campaign map shadows. If it's time between turns, then you probably didn't fully remove BGRIII.

(might be a bit risky but are there any background services running on your PC that you can turn off in task manager? are there any scans running or any thing that really doesn't need to be on?)

very much at your own risk and you'll need to do the homework to see what it's safe to stop and what you have to leave.

fwiw: I can stop the java update, windowsupdate, realupdate, hard drive de-frag, inter accelerator, Crypserve, Zone alarm safely. AVG8.0 and ad aware, InCD and a few others I can't turn off. and I really don't want to try and sort out all the svchost.exe.

Most of these will simply be not running but some may spark up at odd times to run and that may slow your system down.

(If you're on-line don't disable your firewall and anti-virus software!)
