Default Which Mini-Mods are You Using with SS6.1?

First, I have to say 6.1 is a marvel -- the best M2TW experience I've had so far. King Kong deserves a long a happy life as a reward for such a wonderful piece of work!

The main issue I have, however, are the many different mini/sub mods, all of which sound great, but not all of which are so great when you install them, and some of which seem to conflict with others.

So, which would YOU say are the essential mini-mods for SS6.1?

    Personally:

    - I tried Byg's, and then removed it -- while I like the concept, it slowed my game too much.

    - I haven't tried Real Recruitment -- it seems like it might make things a bit too frustrating for me.

    - I play with the Stone Fort mod, which I love. Wouldn't play without it.

    - I play with the Bigger Battles mod which increases unit sizes -- I love the bigger units!

    - I'm curious about Real Combat, but not sure if it will work with Bigger Battles, and afraid of messing up my edu file.

    - That's it. What am I missing? What are you using? What do you feel is essential for SS6.1?

I'll post mine, in your layout:

    - I tried Byg's, and then removed it -- while I like the concept, it slowed my game too much.

I agree, I too removed it, also because there were some glitches, but were fixed. I was getting around to reinstalling, but I remembered about the load times. It went from 30 seconds, to 10 (not kidding).

    - I haven't tried Real Recruitment -- it seems like it might make things a bit too frustrating for me.

I have real recruitment, some of it is a little annoying, but I'm a realism fanatic, so i'm quite happy with this mod. No slow downs on load times, so I'm a happy camper

    - I play with the Stone Fort mod, which I love. Wouldn't play without it.

Don't have this one, i'll check it out

    - I play with the Bigger Battles mod which increases unit sizes -- I love the bigger units!

I was actually downloading this last night, Hope it doesn't take a big hit on my rig.

    - I'm curious about Real Combat, but not sure if it will work with Bigger Battles, and afraid of messing up my edu file.

Great, I totally forgot about this lol. Someone please answer it!

    - That's it. What am I missing? What are you using? What do you feel is essential for SS6.1?

Total Combat is an excellent mod, I favor it above all the ones listed. Permanent arrows is a nice tweak, and there are some promising mods coming out very, very soon.

Hi, Byg's means Byg's supply and command system right ? It does slow down the campaign and cause alot of lags. How did you remove it ?. Is it save compatible (after remove) ?

Latest Real Combat is included with RR or Total Combat.

    RR+RC
-Great mod, makes you think before you go to war.

    SS Total combat
-My favorite by far, removed the horse animations though.

    Lusteds terrain elevation fix
-No brainer, is more of a bugfix than mod.

Custom music courtesy of Grand Duke Vytautas
-Some really great music, gets me in the mood every time

My own movement rate fix +few personal tweaks

And now, checking out Lusted's new CAI and BAI.
    -Looking good so far.

Could you guys link us to the mods so we don't have to search the whole net looking for the newest version etc?

    I have a question
Can I use only Real Recruitment without Real Combat with SS 6.1? When I install the patch 6.1 I must install both of them. What can I do?
    Thanks

The only optional mod I used when installing the SS6.1 patch was to remove the supply traits (thanks KK !!!). Other than that, I use Zumas buildable stone forts and XAI battle AI.

Too much micromanagement in RR & Byg III for my taste. I was thinking about installing Real Combat but after reading its thread it seems that someone always finds a screwed up texture which results in multiple fixes. I have created my own personal mod, which does the following.

-all building times reduced to 2 turns.
    -2 years per turn.
-add money to all factions to create more AI armies with full stacks.
-drastically increase starting regions and armies of cumans and mongols so that they attack more aggressively
-changed diplomatic relations so that all factions are at continous war with at least one faction

This results in maximum battles per turn with minimal amount of time spent micromanaging building queue's - in other words: TOTAL WAR!!!

I like mine plain too. I removed Bryg (too slow), RR and even the supply script. I like it much better now but I wish the campaign AI would be better or more exciting.

When you install 6.1 you get the option to remove Byg's mod. Though the game will not be save compatible after installing 6.1

Ah, I forgot Lusted's terrain elevation fix, I installed that as well.

I'm confused about RC vs. TC... I understand that Total Combat adds banners, officers, and new animations. But what does Real Combat do? Do they both work together or do you have to pick one or the other?

My main fear at this point is installing a mini-mod that ends up messing up my current SS install, and having to go back and re-install all my mods (which I've already had to do twice...)

I like that KK included some mini-mods in the installer, but I think more 'official' mini-mods would be good. Some of the fairly basic ones like Stone Forts and Bigger Battles should be made part of the installer, imo...

SSTC is it's own mod. It's EDU is based on RR however. So if you download SSTC you will get the flag bearers + animations and unit recruitment based on the latest RR.

Will it run without RR installed?

Yes, but it will use RR's EDU, and things might be unbalanced without the rest of RR's files.
There is an EDU floatinga round the thread of my mod (last pages) that disables RR's changes.

See how confusing this gets? I want to try TC, but not RR. In order to do that I have to hunt around a thread looking for a fix to TC, and then hope that the resulting changes don't mess up any of the other installed mods...

It'd be good if there was a bit more oversight, is all I'm saying. I mean yes, the free market does great things, but maybe we could use a bit more executive management? I think KK did a great thing putting some of the mini-mods in the installer, so you could have confidence they worked well together. Maybe adding more of the popular mini-mods to the installer would simplify the process... Maybe someone on the dev team could test the top 2 or 3 mini-mods for compatibility and put them into a new installer if they pass the test? :hmmm:

any chance of links please people? nothing more frustrating than seeing something listed as "a faix" and then no way to track it down easily over the myriad of forums and subforums :hmmm:
