I dare most people here are not old enough to remember when the Olympics were geopolitical proxy fight between the West and the Warsaw Pact. Now that was was interesting.

It's a global game. So the torch traveling around the world is a symbolism for global participation of this great event.

If you don't care, then piss somewhere else. It doesn't change the fact that this is the highest level of sports competition in the world and features the best atheles from all corners of the globe. I'd enjoy it.

symbolism is a huge part of culture and civilization. That's why we have ceremonies, celebrations for a lot of things. If we only care of whether or not the money is spent on "real" things, there will be no joy in life.

actually they did just as good. The only reason you hear about this time so much is cuz of the protests . Actually China's torch relay could be a lot shorter than other countries' cuz of security concerns. THey cut down a lot of distance.
