Spearmen get a penalty fighting foot soldiers?

So spearmen get a bonus fighting cavalry.

Do they get a penalty fighting foot soldiers? I know in the files and stats, they don't.


But I'm wondering if their animation action somehow gives them a dis-advantage... sort of like the 2 handed weapon bug.

Seeing has nobody has taken this on, allow me. It really depends on the attacking infantry and depends on the defending spearmen.

Spearmen generally have atrocious attack and defense values making them easy prey once they are broken, but highly effective when they remain in a spear wall formation. A charge from just about any heavy infantry will break a spear formation apart, but they are generally capable of holding their own in a fight against light infantry by holding them at bay. It's not a penalty, they just naturally suck in hand to hand.

It probably is worth saying though that certain spearmen are highly effective against armored infantry, ie. billmen and halberders.

I was talking about the order spearmen in the teutonic campaign.

They have attack, charge, and defense (basically a better unit) than the dismounted fuedal knights.

and as for the spearmen, spearmen are generall good at destroying cavalry, or HOLDING infantry, not beating
the beating is for your heavier units
i suppose that with the animations, CA made the spear easer to block by shields
but for order spearmen, their charge basiavlly makes them an HI unit thats good against cavlry
you could possibly use them instead of the low level knights, but each unit has their strengths

This question was for all spearmen. Not necessarily for the Teutonic order spearmen.

I just bring them up because they have better stats than the Dismounted Fuedal Knights and have 150 men per unit vs the 120 for elite units.
