Can children have different surname from father?

I'm prepared to be disappointed here, but is there any way that children can have a different surname to their father? Even though I've set them to have a different surname in descr_strat.txt, the game seems to override it and give them their father's surname anyway.

It should be possible I think, though not sure how.
When you steal a general using a princess, all his children have different last names.

Well, you can use an epithet, that is the way I do it, just make it a hidden trait.

It happens all the time when you steal an enemy general with your princess. ALL his kids will have names different from him AND his mom.

I'm not 100% sure, but thats usually because the name doesn't appear in the factions desc_name.

Sadly probably true. Which just indicates how poorly CA's programmers get how to reference data in an efficient and effective manner.

Yes either use a hidden epithet, OR create a random event in which the mother has a child and then spawn a individual general (you can make the mother otherwise infertile)
