English levey spearmen no guard mode?

I seem to see a problem (Bug)with the English Levey Spearmen, they don't stay in guard mode upon enemy contact and spread out. I did a test with Levey spear men and the other basic spearmen and sure enough they Levey spearmen would spread out while the other unit held a tight line formation.

I know that the Spanish, French, Argonees basic militia spearmen hold their formation in guard mode so I think it may be an isolated problem.

This is a bug. If a unit is given the ability to use a shield wall, it also won't hold formation when in guard mode.

I never actually knew what guard mode does. So it keeps the rank number constant, even when the unit is ordered to move?

Guard mode is usually used (at least by me) when I am trying to create a chokepoint while defending my cities, units after you select that option are more "attached" to each other, when enemy atack they try to keep close to each other, they don't persue the enemy (if you don't tell them to do so ofc) and they aren't spreading so much like fighting in normal mode. Schiltrom or shield wall together with the defense mode is quite useful when you want to defend something at all cost.

It also seems like the rear flank doesn't spread backward (why does it do that in the first place?) in guard mode. Hmmm
