Faction Leader Pix mod for SS 6.0/6.1

Hi all!

This is my little contribution to Stainless steel!

This mod makes campaign map's faction leader pictures, appear in the factions menu!

Just choose any faction and you will see the faction leader they start with and his name, along with the faction description!*

Features:
- includes leaders pix and names for both early and late era factions
- save game compatible
- easy to install/un-install..check the included readme!


*Be aware that ctd's still occur when fast-switching between factions!

Important: A typo occured, that is preventing a portrait of Genoese leader to show up in the factions menu, for the early campaign!

To fix: Go to Stainless_Steel_6\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign folder and rename file leader_pic_genoa to leader_pic_milan!

Yeah well..with tons of already great mods for SS out there, this is just a small add-on.

IMHO..it's nice to see who your leader is when choosing a faction!

Btw..you may notice some small inconsistencies with leader pics and factions. Some leaders look too armored for their faction, and for some factions, same leaders appear in both early and late game..which is pretty impossible due to time span!
But that's how they appear in the game, so it's something maybe for KK to resolve!

An idea that could drastically improve your idea, and make it a lot better! The idea would be to include actual drawings of the leaders, and or Princes and Queens....

This would really make it even more realistic...

I couldn't agree with you more!

And your idea actually crossed my mind at the start..but the thing is I have only used the existing leader pics and placed them in the right spot.
I don't think that I have the knowledge how to make a leader pix from the scratch..as it would require some photoshop experience, which I don't have!

But who knows, maybe in the future..you made me think that's for sure!

edit1: Okay..BioHazard2121 I searched the net a bit, and found out that this idea maybe not so hard to realize after all..I'm not promising anything, but we may have some results in certain time period!

edit2: after realizing the technicalities on how to do it..I stumbled across few serious problems!

First, I think that some of the faction leaders are made up..since I couldn't find any info on them!

And second, even if all the leaders in the game(early and late) are historically accurate, I kinda doubt there is a proper picture/drawing for every one of them! :hmmm:

So although it's a good idea, I don't think it is possible to pull it off!

I'll do some more research and post my final conclusion tommorow..

edit3: well, after some web browsing, I came to conclusion that it is impossible to replace all the faction leader pictures that I added, with the historically accurate drawings..cause some leaders in the game are made up, and of others I couldn't find any drawings that would suffice!

But what could be done, is to make another a bit different mod and add historically significant leader/conqueror/khan/king/duke/doge picture, for every faction! These persons wouldn't represent faction leaders that appear at the start of the campaign..but at least it would be educational! And maybe the year of their birth and death could be added, with their names..

Although that would require some extensive research, cause I'd have to find drawings/pics of leaders for both early and late campaign game(to match the time span)..for which I do not have the time at the moment, but some time in the future, I'd be willing to do it!

Taken into consideration..not sure if it would fit thou! :hmmm:

edit: Sorry DrunkNIrishMan, it can't be done, the game will accept only 69*96 pixels format of the pix, anything else makes game to freeze! So all that can't fit..

Santiago I would be more than glad to help you with this mod, and do some reaserch and get you some good leader/conqueror/khan/king/duke/doge pictures for you. If we work together we could include more info and change the descriptions of some factions and give the birth date and all that information along with better pictures!
