General changed his functionality

Playing vanilla MTW 1,2 + small modifications by myself.
Suddenly one of my generals (not family member) changed his functionality - now he is acting like non-army (diplomat etc.) character:
- he don't wear flag on campaign map
- cannot enter cities, battles, cannot attack or recruit merc
- rebel armies ignore him (unfortunately inquisitors too)
- diplomats and priests can move with him in their turn
- he is still on army and city roster (in last city he governed)
- CTD when I try to attach him priest/spy/diplomat
Well, I just pretend he's gone mad and abandoned his post to be a hermit - it happened all the time But I wander how game settle up his death.
