Icon1 How to mod city titles

I want to mod settlement titles (f.e. duke of constatinople) by changing the image + description + effects that comes with the title.
I'd like to do it to create a special retinue (f.e. a holy relic) that a character gets upon being the governor of that city.

    thanks for your help!

There are two docs you must modify:

The first one is "descr_export_ancillaries" (something likely) in the "data" folder. Then, inside the "data" folder there is the "text" folder, which contains the document "export_ancillaries".

The first one contains the effects and the triggers of the ancillaries. It has two parts, the first one is for the image and the effects of every ancillary, and the second one is for the triggers.

The second document is for how the title is called and its description. Here you can change the title, its description and the description of its effects.

I've changed almost all the titles (since they were very, very unhistorical) and almost every image, for many of them are nothing more than today's arms of the cities. For example, the image for Toulouse is the heraldic shield of arms of now. The Languedoc Cross is nowhere.

I used the ancillaries images of the mod "Pro Deo et Rege" (you can download the ancillaries of "Pro Deo et Rege" whithout downloading the whole game, they are in a thread apart), very good-looking all of them. What I've made is to open the PDeR ancillary images and make a copy-paste on the SS images, and then save the .tga image. It's easier than the other way.

About creating a new ancillary, I cannot handle this yet. I've tried, but it did not worked, so let others illuminate us.

    I hope it helps!

Which titles are so bad? Hopefully no the byzantium ones. While its true that all catholic ones are the same, making ones for each faction, while accurate, is a great deal of work, for a very small gain. I do want to split the pagans off, but KK was not so keen.

fe Duke of Constantinople is already modified from original, so that islamic, greek and christian holders get different names and effects. As to holy relics, there are alot missing, but for instance if you refer to the Holy Mandylion then its a bit unblancing to hand these out at the start, and imo should not be traveling around with a general, but belong to the faction as a whole.

I have tried to think of a system where they are held by the capital and its loss passes them to the capturing faction, eg from Constantinoplle to Paris, but not got it sorted yet.

To err is human, but to really foul things up you need a computer.

There's nothing wrong with titles, I just wanted to create some unique retinues for my new AAR.
If you can help me in this, I'd greatly appreciate. +rep

No, it's ok this division between European Christians, Byzantines and Muslims. What annoys me is that almost all the Catholic titles are "Duke of some city".
Let's take the Aragonese example: Duke of Palma, Duke of Zaragoza, Count of Barcelona and Duke of Toulouse. Historically, in the Middle Age there was a Kingdom in Mallorca, a Kingdom in Aragon, a County on Barcelona and a County in Toulouse. But since the King of Aragon is the faction leader, it is better to state that the title given by Zaragoza should be "Prince of Aragon" or something likely. And since the kingdom of Mallorca was a vassal of the king of Aragon, a general with the title "king of Mallorca" would not be an independent king, but a noble vassal of Aragon or any other faction.

Another thing that annoys me is that the titles are named by the city, while most of times the title involved a territory, such as in England (you did well with Earl of Wessex, etc) or with the Duke of Burgundy for Dijon.

I understand that aplying the correct titles for all settlements is a lot of work. I've only changed it for my own pleasure. If you want, I can send you the modifyed titles. On the other hand, being a western European, I know very little about Russian, Polish or Hungarian titles, so I have not touched them.

The Byzantine titles has something odd: Constantinople gives the title "Emperor of Byzantium", if I remember well. Well, since the Emperor is the faction leader, I suggest other title for Constantinople: Eparch, the governor of the city. But for Catholics, the conqueror of Constantinople should recieve the title "Emperor of Constantinople" and for muslims perhaps "Sultan-i Rumi".
