Default Problem w/ battles - freezing

Well, to give some backround info on the problem:
I hadn't played ROTW in a while, but felt a tinge of nostalgia and decided to try it out again. So, i had to clean up what was left of the last uninstall (i had used mods for a while). got that done and I installed the game.
-now here's where i think one possible problem might be. about three times i got an error that a folder/file could not be accessed. I cleaned the discs and made sure they were openable and it would work. So im wondering if the files arn't complete and thus, causing the freeze.
Then, i had to install the patches:
-it said originally that it was version 1.0, so i tried to install 1.2. However, i got that ever too common (game is already up to 1.2). so i tried up to 1.3 and it worked. so i then did 1.5 -- so maybe the game has missing files because 1.2 didn't install?

please any help would be wonderful. i looked up prices and they're not too bad to buy another, but i'd rather just be able to do a quick fix and conquer away

I can't answer any of your technical questions, but regarding prices, Circuit City seems to have the best deal. For the R:TW/BI Gold Edition, it's $10.

(Just curious: you're using R:TW's uninstall feature, right?)

You need to remove all traces of RTW from the Windows Registry before starting the install process. The message about already being patched to 1.2 is a symptom of that.

If you have a read of the following post there is a description on how to install 1.2 manually and a link to a thread on how to remove the game from the registry; http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showp...65&postcount=1

If you do this and get an error message please post a screen shot of the error message.

The best way to play RTW and mods is to keep a clean install of RTW (unmodded) and copy that to another folder. Use the new folder as a base for your mods. I keep each mod in it's own game folder (even if it's mod switchable). To remove a mod I simply delete the folder and remove any shortcuts that I've set up.

PoM: yea mate I know its pretty cheap out there, but I'd just rather not spend any of it, y'know? So many other things i can spend it on.

Brusilov: Thanks bro! i'll use that to hopefully clear everything. I think i'm going to just buy a new game and then make extra copies and what not. thanks a bunch!

You don't need to buy a new game - the only time to do that is if the one you have is broken (the disk has a crack or is badly scratched) or lost.

Just take a copy of the working installed game before you apply any mods to it. You will always have a clean working copy if you take that approach.

well man if you look at the top i talk about the fact that it was so badly scratched that the system couldn't find some files and i had to clean them a lot. i'm guessing the files didn't copy completely, so instead of spending all that time to reinstall it again only to risk doing this again, i'm gonna spend 15 bucs or so for a new game. the games great, so i think its not too bad an investment:hmmm:
