That should do just fine.
On the other hand that might prevent even the negotiation for a trade agreement and will quickly trigger wars. Haven't tried it myself, but if you do the settings between religions then you will most certainly end up with religious wars.
I was looking thru the campaign AI files hping there was an easy setting in there, will need to look at little deeper into it
cheers for the replies

In matters campaign AI you should get in touch with xeryx
You could infact do very simple decision entries in the AI file to prevent factions of one religion allying with factions of another religion. The Ai file explains itself pretty well at the top.

Well there's already stuff in my mod to reduce the likelihood of Islamic and Catholic factions allying with each other, but the whole alliance against thing messes that up somewhat.

@TheFirstONeill,
I don't know but I think this was already in Lusted's CAI, or maybe I added it from the Crusades CAI. Add this entry below to the Catholic label.
<decision_entry>
<!--
DON'T ALLY WITH ISLAMIC FACTIONS
-->
<min_entry target_religion="islam"/>
<max_entry target_religion="islam"/>
<faction_attitude want_ally="false" pts_alliance="-50" continue="true"/>
</decision_entry>
For islamic factions you can add a similar entry like so:
<decision_entry>
<!--
DON'T ALLY WITH CATHOLIC FACTIONS
-->
<min_entry target_religion="catholic"/>
<max_entry target_religion="catholic"/>
<faction_attitude want_ally="false" pts_alliance="-50" continue="true"/>
</decision_entry>
Personally I do not use an Orthodox label I just make them use the Default label. But I'm sure you can see how easy it would be to copy the above for Orthodox.
All the best
Dave
@Snipafist,
Before I used these parameters I was getting the Moors allied to the Papal States and stupid stuff like thatAlso I can remember how annoying the Turks used to be. Sending their diplomats all over the place and making alliances with half of christendom.. We all have our own preferences though of course.
Dave
Im tinkering on a fantasy mod, so all the religions are different and I want to make cultural power bases, so I'm trying to use religion to stop cross culture alliances, Ive added two new ai_labels, Pagan and Meso, and have added
<decision_entry>
<!--
DON'T ALLY WITH PAGAN FACTIONS
-->
<min_entry target_religion="pagan"/>
<max_entry target_religion="pagan"/>
<faction_attitude want_ally="false" pts_alliance="-150" continue="true"/>
</decision_entry>
<decision_entry>
<!--
DON'T WANT ALLY WITH ISLAMIC FACTIONS
-->
<min_entry target_religion="islam"/>
<max_entry target_religion="islam"/>
<faction_attitude want_ally="false" pts_alliance="-150" continue="true"/>
</decision_entry>
<decision_entry>
<!--
DON'T WANT ALLY WITH ORTHODOX/SUN GOD FACTIONS
-->
<min_entry target_religion="orthodox"/>
<max_entry target_religion="orthodox"/>
<faction_attitude want_ally="false" pts_alliance="-150" continue="true"/>
</decision_entry>
to each ai-label (different versions per religions), so they can only ally with own religion, I will test it and let you know how it goes,
cheers for the advice guys, have rep'ed you all
cheers

I never liked the idea of outright barring cross-religious alliances. For instance, Spain throughout most of the medieval period was a constant balancing act between Portugal, the Moors, and the Spaniards (all in various states of unification), with Christians and Muslims forming temporary alliances when it suited them. The same is true of some of the medieval states predating on the Byzantines and forming temporary alliances with the Turks, and with some Muslim states allying themselves with the crusaders as a means of getting a political leg-up over their enemies who were in the crusaders' cross-hairs. Disallowing that in M2TW would be a shame.
well after 50 turns into the testing I am getting cross cultural allaiances, but only if one faction is dominating the other, so this appears to fit what I want. If both faction are on an equal standing they do not ally.
Before the changes, 10 turns in, everyone was allying with each other making it all rather dull, so the solution appears to be working, thanks for the advice gentlemen
cheers
