We can't say "yes, definitely", because we can't know it for sure, as we don't have practical experiences of that, and apriori judgments can be made only after the perception of a certain phenomenon.

We can only presume that there is (or isn't) life after death.

We can't really prove that death happens at all. How do you know your mind is tied to your body at all? Scientists have been able to communicate and play "ping pong" with coma patients, so your mind is still active even when your body is dormant.

When someone dies, all you see dying is the BODY... there's no way to prove that the mind died with it.

I think "Is there life before death?" is a better question!

I can't say for certainty what happens, but I doubt greatly it is anything like religion likes to claim.

"the worms are gonna love you, when you're dead", as a Sparklehorse once sang.
Once I'm dead all the lovely chemicals in my brain that influence my personality, and all the intricate web of neurons that forms my brain will all be gone. I can safely say, without fear of anything to ever prove otherwise, that when you're dead you're dead.

And what happens to the soul? The soul can't rot away.

What exactly is a soul? Can you prove a soul exists?

What do you feel when you're in love?

What do you feek when you lose somebody who was close to you?

What do you feel when you're happy and satisfied?

Are these feelings real to you? Or are they just mechanic reactions of your body?

What I'd like to argue here, is that we are not just simply body or "material". If so, what happens with the soul upon death?

    Simply disappears with the body?

It's all chemicals/in the brain. Or cocaine.

Mechanic reactions of the body. But that doesn't make them any less real or any less amazing.

Well the soul must either be matter or energy. Your brain ceases to work and eventually decays away, so yes, your personality dies with your body.

A soul is not a physical thing, but its what makes up who you are. You could call it you "personality" organ, I suppose.
Well I understand that, I use soul as a metaphor for personality in my speech.

Your lung's dont decide what kind of personality you have, nor does your heart, nor your brain.
    Your genetics do.

Your soul is what defines you. I cant prove it exists, but then, nobody can prove that it doesnt.
Everyone has a personality, but you're trying to tell me there is an otherworldly component to my body that you cannot prove exists. Excuse me while I wait for you to prove it. (no one can prove a negative Elzabar, so that's not a case for your position at all)
