Default Who has left R. SPQR for R. Surrectum (and why)?

    Greetz RS devoted ones!

There are many pros and cons about RS and SPQR, and maybe someone familiar with both of them could persuade me why RS is better then SPQR?

So I just would enquire if anyone here used to be an SPQR player, and was "converted" to R. Surrectum, and for which reason?

    thanx.

I used to be a SPQR player but... I hated that you could recruit Spartan Hoplites everywhere. I also hated that the Seluecid Empire was no match to the Spartan Hoplite rush the greeks were fond of useing against me on VH/VH.

That's basically my main pet peeve was that you could recruit the best from practically anywhere. Seriously.. Spartan Hoplites at the start in Syracuse? Madness!

First of all , as a team member we at R.S. do not condemn or judge what Mod is better than others . Its just a preference and style of Game decisions
and what the player wishes to partake in and enjoy.
I My self have played Barebones , EB , Expanded Greek Mod , Also RTR , and SPQR , They all have their good points and bad points in my opinion. From skies . units , cash flow , map design , balance , battle map design ect..
A person just has to test it out themselves. A Wise man told me once,
don't tell how good you are , just let others tell you ! Then you will know how good you truly are.
We are confident , that if a person enjoys building an empire .
Having enough money to do so , and a excellent choice of units that it will make it more enjoyable, Plus our Free people ( not playable ) faction gives you hundreds of villages and city states that would depict many factions that the game couldn't handle. Plus meny meny meny changes are coming soon !! New units as you can see in our faction preview lists. New everything !
Rivers , lakes , streams , Oceans , skies , landscapes , maps , ect ect ect ect ect.... .
Your choice is yours we don't need to convince anyone !
Our Mod isn't to persuade anyone. But to have a feel towards a more historical world at our starting date 217 , And we are heading towards more historical units as best as we can get from Greek written books from Keras info , Libraries , old tombs , historians ect...
plus other sources, and by the talented skinners and modelers Tone , AE , Pacco . L. E. Burner , Bebe , plus the outstanding work from the rest of the team !
Personally i like the stacks awesome battles just as SPQR ,
Also anyone can have as meny mods as they want. Not that one mod is better than another , but that it might offer more details or enhancements
    when others don't.
Anyhow do the coke & pepsi challenge , and see what you like.
After all its just a matter of opinion..
I will say that this next Mod RS2 ( Classical Gold )
Is going to be the last Mod for RTW. In this time period!
Unless a moder comes by and does a fantasy one.
That is why we have been working well over ...hmmmm:hmmm:
    2 years on this.
I my self joined RS 1 year ago as a Greek researcher.
And i have learned a lot since i have enjoined and learned to respect these skinners and modelers , traits men , map men , They have put tones ( oops ha ha ha ) my mistake !! ) Tons of hours into this without getting one dime!
But for you and me plus because they don't have anything else to do and no life ! ( JUST KIDDING TEAM !! )
Tone told me one unit took 4 days to get right !
maybe more time. Some take longer and less...
Anyhow enjoy what ever you prefer and thank you for your commit.
We do not bash mods or the people that make them knowing what they
    go through in making them...

It is me, who must thank you for your inner-circle answer, making things more clear and also comlex for me to go on.

Thanx for your team for choosing this path, and good-luck.

I love playing SPQR. It has an epic battle system that is still the best made for any mod in my opinion. But there are two areas in particular where I think the current RS is better: it is balanced for all factions, not just Rome; and it is more historically accurate. SPQR plays like a somewhat exaggerated version of Roman history, everything is a bit bigger and more colorful -- which makes for great fun. But in the end I prefer to be able to believe that my campaign is a 'real' alternate history, and features like the ubiquitous Spartan hoplites take me away from that.

But it's a matter of taste -- if you love playing Rome, SPQR is a tremendous mod.

Its just personal preference. I love both mods, and one is better depending on my mood. If im feeling lazy, and just want a historical empire, than i want RS. But if i have a lot of time to waste, and wont worry about the endless battles then i play SPQR. Both are great mods, and if i am correct didnt DVK use to be a huge SPQR player?

SPQR has to many units, money, battles etc...for my taste.Iam used to Darth Mod for various reasons(i need to be on the verge of collapse everytime and anywhere ) but atm iam looking for something new/similar and so i tried RS. Iam still in my first campaign and l am very pleased with my decision to give it a try.Very good mod indeed.

I see the effort the modders have put into SPQR, its just not my cup of tea.
You ask for steak, I bring you fish. You say that you think steak is better than fish. I say that fish is much more popular than steak so obviously it's better. You say that no matter how good the fish is it can't be better at being steak than the actual steak we used to serve. I say that's just your perception and you're entitled to it but you should accept that fish is the future and that's good. You begin to say something but I stab you in the eye with a fork and run into the kitchen.

Yes indeed -- many of us have played SPQR and the great SPQR battle system is a great inspiration for RS.

I was indeed, and still am a great SPQR fan. I tried others at first, but loved the gameplay of SPQR much better. People should also bear in mind that SPQR, aside from a few things that were used with permission, is a 'one man' mod. LT1956 built the whole thing himself, and I greatly admire him for the excellence and polish of his mod.

Also, LT1956 has offered to do a whole new 'battle system' for RS2 when all the new units are in...so you'll be experiencing a whole new challenge. It should be great fun. And basically, that's what both these mods are all about. Having fun.
