Default Possible Voice Mods For the next Version of Stainless Steel?

I was wondering:hmmm: if you guys can develop some voice-mods, like the voice-mods of EB and Xenophonia, to add in the next version of SS. I can help with the Spanish (Kingdom of Castille-Leon) and Catalan (Crown of Aragon) voice-mods if you want.

Hey, you have done a great work with the last release of SS! Very thanks for your work!

Mainly the campaign map voices need to change. The Germanic, French and Scandinavian voices irritate the hell out of me. England, Scotland and Ireland are cool. Italian and Spanish ones not so bad. I don't play the Muslim factions, so no opinion there.

As an Irishman I can tell you that the Irish voices are way off, in fact they're exactly the same as the Scottish, and having played the European campaign as the Scots, it made the Britannia campaign with Ireland too similar for my liking. Then again, the accents were probably pretty much the same in Medieval times. Still, it would be fantastic to have proper Irish accents in this game.

No, I didn't mean that. I was speaking about, for example, make Ireland to speak Irish, the Crown of Aragon to speak Catalan, the Byzantine Empire to speak Greek... this is what I was speaking about. So then, it's possible to do it?

When I say "speaking about" I mean "talking about" , sorry, my English isn't good enough.

At least give them proper accents. The "southern European" accent sucks so bad.

Yeah it'd be nice if the Scandanavian accent was...well Scandanavian

Agreed, hearing that crap every time you select a unit can get to you. The eastern European accent bugs me too. A real language mod is a good idea.

I think the problem has something to do with the fact that SS changes the names of a lot of factions and adds a few, so you need to work with that and, (if I'm not mistaken) because it also changes the music file, Xenophonia has some big problems working in conjunction with SS..

Personally, I'd love to see this happen, except it would add several gigabytes to this already very large modification. Besides, while I agree with you and would love some accurate voices in their native tongues, I'm pretty sure there are plenty of others who really don't give a damn and would rather have a mod of a more 'reasonable' size..

Hopefully someone will find a way to adapt Xenophonia to SS, but for now I'm doubtful..

Indeed! Xeno worked with me in SS 4 but I didn't manage to get it to work with SS 5 or SS 6, and now I have to listen to those accents, horrible.

I'm pretty sure I remember someone did do a version of Xenophobia (or at least tried to) for an earlier version of SS but I dont think it has been kept up.

If this is done, would they have to be modern version of the language? Medieval Latin and Greek are probably well known, but you would need language professors to do Middle English, Middle French, etc.

Europa Barbarorum for Rome did this really well, and it really adds ambience to the game- you can even hear units giving commands and screaming in their native languages in battle. Something like this would be really nice for the better M2 mods out there, namely SS and Deus lo Vult

It honestly seems like CA just drags in whoever they can find for the voice acting, remember trying to place as a Greek faction in vanilla RTW and having your men addressing you as "Strappy Horse", because whoever butchered the Greek voices so badly couldn't pronounce "Strategos" correctly? I honestly think CA's attitude with these games since RTW has been "If it doesn't make the graphics even prettier, then we don't care!"- thank goodness for you modders out there.

No no no, they did see some effort in the voices. Unfortunately the effort meant that they made accents to the translated versions of the game also. The result: in English version they only speak proper English, all other languages are that broken accent shait. In German version only HRE speak proper German and for example English troops speak English-accented German and so on (as far as I've heard, I only played the English version myself)...

I just wonder WHY? Wouldn't it be much easier and much much much less-retarded to just put every faction or just the major factions to speak their own language?

That's true, but not completely: in the Spanish version, obviously the Spaniards speak Spanish well. French speak Spanish with French accent, etc. But the southern european cultures (Italians, Byzantines and Portugueses) also speak Spanish properly. And I'd like to hear them talk with funny Italian or Portuguese accents.

I would really like voicemods like in EB, it adds more realism. I hope some body makes work this (maybe a poll should be made to see what other people think).

What? No. That's horrible, a truly terrible idea. I can understand reworking voices and redoing parts, but giving generals voices in their own native language?

I want to hear my greeks talking in english, even if it's horribly accented english, because i'd rather be able to hear that than not understand one word.

On the other hand, if you could get every language M2 is in up to the same, consistent high standard...

    Good luck.
Personally, I'd prefer seeing seeing a Byzantine Empire in the 1600s, and further. Realism? ha! The glory of crushing Rome's enemies comes before questions on why you have greeks with guns running around the Middle East and beyond.

Are subtitles possible? When Xenophonia worked with me, I got no subtitles.
