Is there a Mod for increasing the cost of managing cities far from your capital?
I have been thinking about realistic game play and I was wondering if there is a mod to penalise factions with large empires. I know there is a culture penalty and a 'distance from capital' penalty which affects happiness in the settlement.
Is there a way to increase the cost of managing a settlement which is further away from your capital? Buildings should be more costly to build (ie cost of transporting material and building expertise) and the ongoing cost of maintaining legions should increase the further away they are from the capital.
If there is a way to modify this aspect of the game, can this mod be made to affect all factions not just the human player?

I have never heard of such a mod, though I would guess it would be impossible to assign different costs to the same buildings, depending on other factors.

It's doable to create different buildings of the same purpose for different regions, but the hard-coded limit (max 64 buildings) makes it impossible for RTR because the auxilia/barracks for each factions have used too many slots.

I guess I am trying to reflect the fact that managing a huge empire would have been very costly. One thing I have found is that once you have conquered a large number of provinces particular across the Mediterranean and Aegean money no longer becomes an issue. Some times I have been earning 75K per turn.
I suppose I can reflect this cost using 'house rules' by recruiting large armies for different regions as defence and build a few more ships to reflect the need to protect merchant trade.
Does anyone else have any suggestions regarding house rules I could apply?

I don't think money should be a problem for a large empire, realistically speaking; what I do as a house rule, in order to simulate the difficulty of controlling an empire spreading over a multitude of peoples, is to never, ever (I should add "ever") destroy any (not even auxilia of dead factions) buildings in a captured province; that way you get a nice culture penalty which will go away with eventual assimilation (=upgrading the native buildings and turning them into those of your own culture). Besides not detroying buildings is only fair, as the AI can't do it either.
