    Wankdorf is a proud German stadium, built on the site of a Teutonic fortress. Originally erected in 1359 by Ulrich von Wanken, one of the orders more austere commanders, it was virtually impregnable until it was almost completely levelled by an outbreak of dysentery. Killing more than 90% of the garrison of Wankdorf, the sickness moved on and left the poor s alone in the world.
