The book is really, really good.
Are you serious? I thought it was a borderline garbage. I most certainly wouldn't spend any money to read it.

Having said that, I first read it when I was about ten. That is to say, I enjoyed it. It may not be particularly historically accurate at points, and it may not be a literary masterpiece, but it was (and still is) one of my favourite books.

The only good thing about this book is that the author himsef admits that he had no intention to be accurate. This is giantic step forward compared to Hollywood movies for example.

I don't want to sound negative, but the book sucks just like the movie.

Shaara, on the other hand, which I read quoted in Trax's signature, a nice writer that one. I appreciate his sci-fi works as well.

Ah well! I'm in no hurry to read it. I'm working my way through John Julius Norwich's Byzantium trilogy at the moment - now there's a good read!

The Last Legion, though I've only heard of it, reminds of that King Arthur movie that came out recently. What exactly is so bad about The Last Legion? King Arthur was a good movie though.

@Tony--That's a very good read! I love those books, wish I owned them! Thank goodness I have a good library. Haven't read any history books for a few weeks now, but I've got two that I'm waiting for the summer to read. They're both about the Hellenistic world, so it's right up my alley. I reckon I have way too many books about that, but who cares?

Beautiful outside today too. I guess my roommate is having a barbeque so I have that to look forward to as well.

@Const-- Well, as a movie it's just not very good. Poor acting, bad dailogue, cheesy effects, the works. There's a few threads about it in the Arts. The main problem is that they made no attempt to be historical, so you see Goths rampaging through Scotland, legions that are 400 years out of date, butchering of the Arthur legend... I could go on.

King Arthur a good movie :hmmm:. That film was so terribly inaccurate and skewed with hollywood "T3h Good Guyz" it was untrue, glad I didn't pay to see it.

As an entertainment, I preferred "The Last Legion" to "King Arthur", but the latter did "look" good.

    Has anybody seen Ironman yet?

I heard it was very good, but I'm not too keen on spending $11 American (gasp! deflated currency!) to go see a semi-decent movie.

It was possibly the coolest movie ever ...

Why? It's really not that hard.

Ironman: Why the hell are they making a video game already and advertising it, too? The movie has only been out for like...what? Two days?

It's the new dealio, they make a video game to release with the movie and 11 year olds everywhere rush out to buy it. You didn't see 'The Golden Compass' video game?

Oh man, it was awesome. It's funny too, part of it reminded me of Transformers... which in turn reminds me of Rock-em Sock-em Robots.
Definately great, though. If you loved Transformers you'll love Iron Man, if you didn't... you'll still love Iron Man!

Great, I think I'm going to see it this weekend with a lovely chica then...and I might have to go see the movie at a later date to get the plot, if you know what I mean...heh heh heh.

And Transformers was AMAZING as well, so I'm looking forward to it.
