So, I'm back. Or out of retirement. Or whatever. And wow has this place changed since I last logged in. Which may have been quite some time ago.

Anyone want to catch me up? Who's in charge, what's new? What do citizens do for drama these days?

I was wondering if this was a curiosity peek or something more regular. It as though you last posted in 2007, so to "catch you up" would quite involve.

I saw my profile said my last post was July 2007. But that's definitely wrong. I was Curator until September 2007 and you can find me posting curial reports and votes in the archives after the date my profile says I last posted.

I also picked up some rep and visitor messages in 2012 so I must have been online then and posted a couple of times.

It almost sounds like the reforms a few months ago killed the Curia...

Yeah the "last post date" thing is broken and doesn't really work properly.

I'd say the issue is that the Curia was pretty much entirely just bickering and arguing with each other, with nothing actually being done.
Order 66 changed stuff up, which annoyed people and so some people just don't use the Curia anymore (not that anything was being done beforehand) and everyone else had given up before Order 66 came along.

The Curia / citizenship "died" long before "Order 66." If anything it is an effect of the death, not the cause. A noted here in a thread you have responded in and in here, the Curia/ citizenship has been in a steady and steep decline for years predating my join date of 2011.

People may claim that the removal of the CdeC was also a cause, but it help create the demise itself. The CdeC help increased the standards of citizenship far greater than practical and citizenship application declined during its tenure. However, there is an unexplained steep decline from 2007 to 2008 that cannot be easily explained. The removal of the CdeC did result in members leaving the Curia and activity declined further. A more honest appraisal may be that members perceived citizenship as something far more than it was intended to be. The CdeC may be have been an convenient scapegoat due to the nature of its purpose.

The result of the removal of the CdeC led to a number of "fixes." Since citizenship became viewed as elitist and frequent bickering it drove away citizens who might otherwise offered tangible improvement to the site in general. The combination of needed "fixes' and the lack of participation of citizens increased, the Curia became more cliqish over time furthering hastening its own demise.

This is what brought about "Order 66." It was hoped that by increasing the "pool" of participants then this would increase activity. Unfortunately, the site no longer had a lot of interested members. Without being to bias, that is pretty much the gist of it.
