Default Does anyone use the "General" camera

    Hi everyone,

In the options for cameral view there are 3 options to use for camera view. These are RTS, Total War and General. I usually play in RTS, I like to be able to hover and move around the battlefield but I tried the "General" view out and I have to say I like it. It only lets you view from your General's unit, so basically you have to give your orders and hope they are followed out. I tried one battle that way and it was definitely more challenging. Not being able to get the birds eye view and adjust quickly, it seem more realistic to me. On the first battle I had all my troops lined up with me in the rear and I gave them their orders for the battle. I rode back and forth giving orders to units.

I am thinking that I might try a game where I use the "General" view for most of my battles, the exception being seiges where I am the defender . I would consider using the RTS for ease of defense.

    Anyone else have any thoughts?

    Thanks

I love this mode. I'll play zoomed up to right on top of the general. It adds a lot of realism IMO and it's a lot of fun. I like riding through the ranks and issuing orders or having to ride to a hill so i can get a better view of the battle. It's also cool riding with your general in on a cavalry charge. Hmm, maybe I'll try my hand at the GC again using only general cam, that's a good idea. I think it might be cool for sieges too if your general is in an infantry unit because then you could command the defense from the top of the wall.

I don't use it during battle, though I did play a online game once, that using the general camera angle was one of the rules...... game was tough......had to watch your radar more then usual. I do use the general view sometimes watching replays, all depends on what the general is doing. Most the time mines just die'in. Hate watching that

Hope to see ya in the game.

I don't like it because if you want realism, then you shouldn't be able to issue orders to units that cannot hear you.

We use hand signals easier to see from my horse plus with the din of battle you couldnt hear me anyways

You have a shield in one hand and a sword in the other.... no hand signals...
Maybe specialized soldiers using semaphore (spelling?) code.. lol

General mode would definitely be tricky.. might be fun to try for a battle or two... but part of the fun for me is zooming to watch the soldiers fight and walk and the like...

It's kind of neat, but I don't really use it. Perhaps if the units would take more initiative, or respond better to threats, it'd be a little more realistic.

The general himself wouldn't signal, it'd be done by having attendants wave banners and such.

Are you sure your general has a shield? As far as I can tell my general character has never had a shield either in infantry of cavalry. (which is a bit odd)

This would be a good basis for a realism mod.

Realistic medieval battle. You can't control any units except for the general and only issue general orders. Before the battle, you all decide on a general gameplan all units would follow.

Raising banners for who comes to attack.

I like that idea. That is exactly how things would have been done. The field commanders had their standing orders and they would be signalled to ensure their timing was correct. Battle planning would be a little like the Rainbow 6 tactical planning stage.
