    Default The Formations Thread

This game looks verry nice and is verry new for me. new in how to play and new in how to use my legions. i read the Battle Strategy and Tactics by SeniorBatavianHorse. But now i am wondering how do the players make there legions and what formations do you guys use.

    early roman time :

    1 first cohort eagel
    9 imperial cohorts
    3 auxilia legions
    4 missile
    2 cav units
    1 general

    late roman empire :

Wlcome to the forum! I understand it can be a little hard to form an army for the late roman era, especially if you have a classical era background. Have you checked Pompeius Magnus' thread on the subject? It is really good and you'll find very useful information in it. here is the link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=106375
    Enjoy the mods!

    ??
Why do you think there is a difference between ME, THE PLAYERS and Pompeius Magnus guide?
I think there are no differences any more.
He explained perfectly how to make a realistic legion for the late antique. Also the thread of SBH is very helpful.

Strategy means to prepare yourself for an event X in the future. That includes the composition of an army and your plan about the armies' movement and the destination in general (is answered in Pompeys guide).

    Hi Hesus,
My own 'At The Limes' AAR campaign illustrates nicely how I deploy actual units and armies in the field as distinct from the 'ideal' set-up. With a decaying empire and troops thrown together in an ad-hoc fashion, all sorts of army assemblies are possible. Personally, as the AAR shows I attempt to cobble together proper legions and vexillations to attempt to create an authentic late Roman comitatus. Other players will differ depending on the chaos their own Rome has fallen into!

Thanks, Coni. It's fun and rewarding trying to figure it all out from the source texts!
