    Default Experiance system redux?

There's been one small thing niggling at me in Stainless Steel, and MTW2 in general.

    The experiance system.

Right now, it seems units get an extra +1 to attack every 3 points of experiance, which I think is far too little.

I just find it odd that a unit that has survived so many devastating charges against enemy lines full of glistening spears and swords only knows how to attack a little bit better than their newly trained and recruited counterparts.

Perhaps they could also get a bonus to their defence skill? Or charge skill? Or better morale? There's plenty of ways to make it better I think.

I thought Kingdoms did away entirely with the defense skill bonus.

..which annoys me. I liked the veteran cannon fodder peasants
Personally, I'd prefer seeing seeing a Byzantine Empire in the 1600s, and further. Realism? ha! The glory of crushing Rome's enemies comes before questions on why you have greeks with guns running around the Middle East and beyond.

It did, hence why bringing it back would be neat.

yes, yes it would. Would really help with relatively weak units such as the Merchant Militia cav and some of the italian units.

I don't think the Italian units need any help since they basically have free upkeep. But nonetheless I would like to see it back again anyway.

Unfortunately the bonuses of the experience system are hardcoded.

The worst part about the xp system is that the offensive bonuses are only granted to melee attack and not to the ranged attack, which I think it stupid. So what if my peasant archers have 2 melee instead of 1.... I'm still not sending them to fight hand-to-hand.

Experience increases accuracy. In RAJ that means that it is actually worth it to have experienced archers.
