Default Corrupted save, anything I can do?

Hey there, I was trying out FRAPS while playing a G. Campaign game as the Moors. I was about to Jihad Rome but when I entered the battle I got a CTD. I've since reloaded several times and it seems my save is corrupted, if I hit the end turn button, try to attack anyone, or save the game I get an unspecified error and a CTD. I can start a new game just fine and my old saves work but the save I'm on (and the quicksave) seems to be a lost cause.

I've done a lot of work since my last uncorrupted save so I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what I can do?

There is no way to fix corrupted saves. Does the save before it work?

Actually I just discovered it's a game breaking error.

I can no longer start new campaigns or even play old saves. This is on the Retrofit by the way. I can see no explanation for it, I may have to reinstall retrofit (And i have made a ton of change, weep for me.) But even worse I have to check if Kingdoms itself has this error now.

Did you save your changes and check to see which one may have done it?

It wasn't my changes. The last changes had been made some time before and I was in the midst of testing them, they'd gone 150 turns without a problem and many saves. The Kingdoms launcher itself is corrupted, as I can't launch kingdoms from it, I can only launch it via my mod-switches. Once launched the base Kingdoms campaigns (I didn't mod those) work fine. I attempted to reinstall Kingdoms but the error on the launcher remains.

The only thing different was that I was running FRAPS to take screenies at an opportune moment.

Reinstall retrofit, something seems messed up there. And what did you change in retrofit?

Eh, most of my changes are stable, at least until today!
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    List of changes:
    Fixed the Teutonic Order Bug
    Enabled universal mangonel recruitment
Replace original map with one adding about 40 regions
    Add the "Santiago Pack"
    Added Muskets to England/France
    Added Dragoons to Portugal
Added Bogatyr Footman (sword/shield infantry) to Russia
    Added Scots Guard to Scotland
Adjusted various stats to spearmen and archers including Valiant Champions Pike/Halberd fix
    Early Generals Mod
    Numerous texture changes
Enabled armor upgrades on Moorish Peasant Xbows and DCG (this was the change I was testing).

I actually have 2 copies of Retrofit, the original and the one I was editing but both do not work because something messed up the Kingdoms Launcher itself too.

Is the launcher on the dvd? If so, have you tried copying it over and see if it works? If your answers are yes, yes, and no then uninstall and reinstall to get it back.

I think it's more than just the launcher though because I can boot the game up using the mod switches and even load some of my old saves. But if I try to do anything other than shift about the campaign map I get a CTD unknown error, and if I try the launcher it gets about two seconds into it and then hits a CTD unknown error.

I think I am going to reinstall now.

I have built my own box, I know some things about computers, but whenever I have problem they always mystify me and EVERYONE who takes a look at them no matter how knowledgeable they are.

The first one I built I had just upgraded to DOS 4.0. That thing gave me fits until the motherboard shorted out between layers. Wish you luck.

I still want to say its a software problem with M2TW, uninstall and reinstall and I mean the whole game. Do any of the regular campaigns work?

I ended up getting it running again. I had to uninstall M2, Kingdoms, and Retrofit, then do a registry clean, and reinstall from the beginning.

M2, then Kingdoms (which patched me up to 1.04) then the new patch, and then I started the games.

I turns out FRAPS gives me unspecified errors whenever I have it on (this happened 4-5 times and never without it) so I am abandoning FRAPS and going back to the in-game screen shot mechanism. So basically I'll be continuing my AAR on Lithuania but not doing anything else for a few weeks until I am less busy. I don't mind having to restart a new G.Campaign just having to re-edit all my changes but that's just how it works some times.

Thanks to both of you irishron, and Alfonso VIII for the suggestions.
