Sure, why not? It would definitely require a change in the Chinese Government though.

remember the alliance in 'firefly' was a 'benelovent' autocracy/oligarchy.

An economic alliance sure, politically speaking though, it would be hard for America to support some of China's policies. Forced abortions...their decisions to relocate thousands of civilians to make a resevoir... It might be feasible, but it would require some give somewhere. I would rather be dead than see the US become more like China.

We're allies with the Saudis, and the cut peoples hands off for stealing, its true, they have oil, but eventually, as the Communist party starts to decay, their will be an alliance.

It's not forced abortion really. The government is just discouraging population growth, by fining them. They are asking them to pay a fine, not kill of the child. Even in a country with free press, people are STILL brainwash. Not by the government( may or may not be true, take watergate for instance) mind you , but by the media companies.

It's discouraging a high birth rate, which is just as moral as encouraging birth rates in a country with low birth rates. In a country with the highest population in the world, I THINK you might want to have some sort of control over the population level.

Many of the countries that achieve developed nation status have start programs to discourage birth rates.

when i think of the chicom gov. i think of the oligarchy that runs the imperium of man in warhammer 40k; an oligarchy that is at the same time oppressive and paternalistic and militaristic/jingoistic

Nope, it will never happen. China doesn't like westerners besides the fact that they buy our goods, but that's it. Plus, we don't want to westernize our country, and we certainly don't want the US to tell us what to do. So, I don't support that idea, not that it will ever happen. Being neutral is good enough. We also don't want America to grasp any more information that they can use to make propoganda to drag us down.

I just think that China's leaders are wise enough to know not to be an ally of the US, if they want China to be the next superpower in the world.

    i agree
but individual liberty in this day and age is a fast growing myth methinks
ever since 9/11, i've felt more and more of our civil liberties being ever more eroded.

    customs yes, culture-arguable
tho u could say a lot of modern living is very western influenced but the chinese are still very family/communal oriented as opposed to a rather western individualism and they still tend to hold a lot of confucian values.

    That's racist!

Where on Earth do you live? In some small village in Xinjiang? How are you posting on the internet? China has already westernized.

:S If the Chinese Government wasn't oppressive we wouldn't have anything to criticize.

cellphones and SUVs are technologies-when i think culture, i'm thinking personal/societal values and identity.
does having a macdonalds in say india make the indians culturally ameicanised? shall we say the many sushi bars and chinese/thai restaurants in american and oz an indicator of 'asianisation'?

i'd say the popularity of wushu and buddhism in the west is an indicator of chinese culture, not dissimilar to how communism was to china in the early 20th century-new ideas and concepts which are culturally unique to their 'home countries'.
