Just open descr_sm_factions.txt, and change the line in blue below for any faction you want:
faction france
culture northern_european
religion catholic
symbol models_strat/symbol_france.CAS
rebel_symbol models_strat/symbol_rebels.CAS
primary_colour red 0, green 87, blue 177
secondary_colour red 239, green 239, blue 239
loading_logo loading_screen/symbols/symbol128_france.tga
standard_index 10
logo_index FACTION_LOGO_FRANCE
small_logo_index SMALL_FACTION_LOGO_FRANCE
triumph_value 5
custom_battle_availability yes
can_sap no
prefers_naval_invasions no
can_have_princess yes
has_family_tree yes
Change the word "yes" to "teutonic". That's it. Start a new campaign for the changes to kick in. Be warned, changing this can cause major instability in your campaign, as factions tend to go "rebel" (and I mean the entire faction) more easily. I eventually had to remove this feature from my own mod because Venice and the HRE, the two factions I enabled this for, kept turning all rebel.
errr, you do have to rename your family members and give them a "relative" tag in descr_strat after putting has_family_tree yes in descr_sm_factions.
For example, here is my historally incorrect but working Teutonic family tree information in descr_strat patterned after the Templars. (I hated the name "Von Hohenstaufen") Be very careful with the spellings, all names and character records must be consistent, otherwise you won't be able to enter the game (happened to me on my first try)

why would you want one though? just curious is all.
without a family tree, you can only adopt or promote man of the hours. I'm guessing Education can only be used through Coming of Age, so you'd miss that feature.
cause u cant enjoy the education system ^^ , well at least that my personal opinion ^^ and second , its easy to keep track of generals ^^ , and yes i know the other place

unless quark make a education system just for them ^^ but that would be allot of trouble for just one faction ^^

yea, I like the education system and want to use it for that faction. Thank you, I will have to test it later because GTA 4 is out in a few hours!!
oh btw, don't forget can_have_princess yes too if you want princesses. I realized Candelarius didn't highlight this. Although I haven't really come to the point where my female royal family members come of age so I'm not 100% sure if teutonic princesses would work (what strat models would they use?)
Same as Roman ^^ , it go with their color ^^

So, I changed my descr_sm_factions.txt to say:
can_have_princess yes
has_family_tree yes
...in the TO's section, as well as the descr_strat.txt modification that Userfri3ndly posted - all I'm getting is Grandmaster Gunther the Champion in my family tree, and that's it. What have I missed?
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...er+family+tree
you have to add them in as relatives...
You've already done the sm factions one so you might not need to repeat that process, but the descr_strat.txt labels them as relatives, with a princess, and wifes. All you need to get a family started.
you may just want to copy the TO order part and paste it into your descr_strat... or just use my files.
Good Luck, I prefer to play them this way.
Any idea if I can do this mid campaign? I just now realized this, but I don't want to start over!
thanks!
So I'm totally rezzing this thread from the dead, but I have a few further inquiries on this subject.
1. Does altering the descr_strat and descr_sm_factions still apply for Stainless Steel 6.1 and/or 6.3?
2. Does 6.1 or 6.3 have descr_sm_factions? I can't seem to find it anywhere in the files.
3. Whenever I try to alter anything in descr_strat, I get the following message:
Cannot create the C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel_6\data\world\maps\campaign\custom\Late_Era_Campaign\descr_strat.txt file.
Make sure that the path and file name are correct.
Does anyone know why this message comes up? It doesn't let me change the script as others have done.
Please, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Yes they both have them and are editable.
Yes they have it.
It's path is:-
Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3\data folder.
Right Click the file and select properties for it.
After that uncheck read only option if checked and save it.
And make sure you have admin rights to edit the files.
That seemed to solve the problem. Thanks guys!
