    Default RS 1.5a Soundtrack Pack?

    hello all

i collect a whole bunch of good soundtracks and im working on it to put the best of the best together into the game for me! i just finished the music for the romans and working now on the other nations (barbarians, carthage, egypt, greek and eastern).

i know there are some soundtrack packs still available here at TW center like: Casus Belli Music Pack 1.0, but i dont like the low quality on the music files (mostly mp3 128 kbps joint-stereo) and also some tracks are badly cuted! mine have all 320 kbps in full stereo and sounds well especially on 5.1 systems too!!

to give here are short overview... this music pack will include tracks from:

Miklos Rozsa (Ben Hur, Ivanhoe, King of the Kings, El Cid, The Thief of Bagdad)
    Alex North (Cleopatra, Spartacus)
Jerry Goldsmith (The Mummy, The 13th Warrior, The First Knight)
    Harry Gregson-Williams (Kingdom of Heaven)
Alan Silvestri (The Legend of Beowulf, Van Helsing)
    Ennio Morricone (Red Sonja)
Basil Poledouris (Conan the Barbarian, Conan the Destroyer)
    Elliot Goldenthal (Titus)
    Vangelis (Alexander, El Greco)
    Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, King Arthur)
    Carter Burwell (Rob Roy)
Danny Elfman (Planet of the Apes)
    Manos Hadjidakis (The 300 Spartans)
    Tyler Bates (300)
    James Horner (Troy, Braveheart)
    Patrick Doyle (The Last Legion)
Gabriel Yared (Troy - The Recjected Score)

and some more! i collect over 300 soundtracks

some tracks are in full length, others are cuted and mastered by me with Cool Edit Professional.

my question here... have someone interest in this ones i managed to finish this pack next? if so, ill try to upload it to filefront! but beware: this pack will between 300 - 500 MB big (perhaps more)

please tell me what you guys think?

We will not be including that music pack in RS as there are many copyrighted songs (all of them) in that list, and we couldn't release them, and neither can you, without violating international copyright law.

If you want to make the music pack for personal use go right ahead and enjoy some lovely music.

The track listing is amazing but due to copyright, as Squid pointed out, we cant take them or put them under the RS name

I understand that it is copyrighted and all.

But what about the songs from that other music pack(From that Italian mod). Arent those songs copyrighted too or am I wrong.

    Hmmm, good question.

    This is their disclaimer:
"The music pack is free to the use of all. It's not for money; to make money and the rights are of exclusive property of the original authors of musics. It's prohibited to use this music pack for an different usage, for the reasons above-mentioned"

I'm not sure if that gets them out of having any copyrighted material on the track listing but i will check and find out

The only thing I know about this whole copy right thing is that you can distrubte the music but the second anyone tries to make a single cent it becomes illegal.

So what there doing over there is technically copyright too.

The problem with that logic is that it would mean that any music could be downloaded legally, so long as no one was making money from it. Obviously it is still illegal.

    Perhaps other mods got permisson?

SquidSK is absolute right about the copyright law!
i havent noticed that before... i think to cut them all a little, because i know its allowed to make previews but im not sure about the length a preview maximal can reach!

but century x asked a good question... i know a lot of the other mods use also copyrighted tracks like SPQR (tracks from Cleopatra, Spartacus, Ben Hur and the pc game Caesar III) and the casus belli music pack too (from Gladiator as example)

    yep... thats right!

i personally like this one more --->>> http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048937/
with the good old Richard Burton

but the original score from Mario Nascimbene is hard to get!!! and vangelis did a nice job (as always) with the score!!!

Legal update from where i live....

Under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 which addresses IP rights in the UK

It is an offence to perform any of the following acts without the consent of the owner:

    Copy the work.
Rent, lend or issue copies of the work to the public.
Perform, broadcast or show the work in public.
    Adapt the work.

I would say this is issuing the tracks without prior consent, international law is pretty much similar where ever you go

    However:

Fair dealing is a term used to describe acts which are permitted to a certain degree without infringing the work, these acts are:

    * Private and research study purposes.
    * Performance, copies or lending for educational purposes.
    * Criticism and news reporting.
    * Incidental inclusion.
    * Copies and lending by librarians.
    * Acts for the purposes of royal commissions, statutory enquiries, judicial proceedings and parliamentary purposes.
    * Recording of broadcasts for the purposes of listening to or viewing at a more convenient time, this is known as time shifting.
    * Producing a back up copy for personal use of a computer program.
    * Playing sound recording for a non profit making organisation, club or society.

What we're using it for doesnt go into any one of these exclusions i'm afraid

Did these mods get permission to use all those songs? Which is a hard thing to do.
    I think they did that.

i agree! if they got the permission, i think they had to pay for it some money to recording companies (like: Varse Sarabande, Silva Screen, Warner Bros. etc.) and i dont believe that!

and thanks for the help to clarify this things out MarcusTullius

    Highly doubtful...

LOTR:TW had someone splice up the tracks so technically it wasn't copywrite infringement, at least that what I remember from last year... if this gets sorted I'd definitely download it.

    Thanks for the clarification Marcus.

@ Fuzz, what do you mean by splice the tracks - do you mean putting them together, surely this would still be illegal.

Well, I think you're allowed to distribute if you don't exceed a certain length of the song... and they remixed them... or something.. um.. can't really recall. I'll head over to the forums and see if I can't find the official reasoning.
