    Default Late Citadels?

Does it seem to anyone else that population in castles is much harder to keep up in 6.0, hence leading to later game units from Citadel's coming (lol no way) really late?

I am in turn 132 of an english campaign, and no-one on the map has a citadel yet, whereas on my old 5.1 campaign with Turks, the first citadel was seen before the 100 turn mark (normally in Pamplona or Palermo).

In the early campaign I have had this problem as well. It takes soooooo long to get a fortress as the player let alone a citadel (it takes at least 100-130 turns for a fortress, unless you just take one of the enemy's who seem to get them way faster)

Put your Faction Leader in the castles you want to improve. The faction Leader always gives a big advantage on the population increase. In my campaigns, he gives between 0.5% and 3% (!) Bonus on the population increase, depending on his skills. So my castles can be improved to fortresses and citadels much faster.

In my byz 5.1 camp i experienced this problem too, I even had to add 1000 pop to Corinth to get to a citadel and the only natural citadel I had/saw was Palermo, but don't have any experience with 6.0 so far. I think the growth is a bit too slow for castles if it is still the same.

Just add population if you arent happy with your unit selection. Once I have a fortress I am fine usually since that gives enough variety.

Before that it can be rather dull.

Chivalry, chivalry chivalry! That's the best way to increase population growth, by far! Each chivalry point adds .5 growth rate. Call a crusade, and then stick your new crusader in the castle of your choice. You won't have a chance to build all building upgrades, before you reach the next level of castle.

Agreed, other than that it will take forever to grow something that huge!

How do you "just add population"? I always upgrade farms and what-not, but the growth rate is always very slow.

Quick question to anybody that knows the answer since we are on the topic of citadels. Why in SS 6.0 when you play as a islamic faction you can't upgrade your fortresses to citadel status. The only one that can do such a thing is the byzantines and i believe there orthodox in religion. Just curious because that is the main reason i don't play with any Islamic factions. Thanks

I didnt notice that till now..Im in my Kwarezmian campaign now (60turns) soon will have my frotress up. Will see if I cant get any citadel. Look in the exp.desrc.buildings file in med2/mods/ss6.0/data folder and look for whom you can build citadels (eastern, western etc next to the buildings description)

Cant do it now as I'm at work

There is a cheat for it, to keep it fair I also add some population to what I consider to be important castles of other factions.

If all goes as planned, I should have Corinth as a Citadal in the next couple turns. I think im on turn 78 right now. high chivalry has its uses i guess. This is an early era campagn. ragusa should be a Cit in 5 turns as well.

In my game Hungary was the first too get a fortress all my castles produce like 1.5% pop and had another 5000 to go. However I am on turn 89 and as far as I know no one else has a fortress.
The Hungarian fortress is a settlement with the huge long and impossible to pronounce name

I have got Toulouse to Citadel by turn 70 or something.

So it's not so bad, it's nicely balanced actually.
