    Default Events, Traits, Ancillaries, etc

    All
As some people are aware although I have spent along time working on these features of SS, and that I still consider it a work in progress. You also may be aware that I love the history stuff, so as such I am re-writing every event I can get away with to make them have in game effects and to introduce more interactive events.

    To do this I am:
Traits: Rewriting to provide the Militant orders with a different education and loyalty system. To compensenate for this benefit (no civil war) I plan on kickking your a** if you get excommiunicated.
Ancillaries:Removing some of the kings ancillaries and establishing a cadre of loyal generals. I will no doubt add more books and unique people as well.

Both of the above I would also like to expand in relation to pagan cultures.

Events: Each faction will be give an introduction which explains the plus/minuses of there empire and the troubles that they will face. This will be generic, but the amount of trouble will be based on difficulty level chosen. As such new events will be added to the game.
Minor factions:To aid with the above I have added in game representations of Georgia and Armenia, and working on Flanders etc.

So if there is any faction that you feel needs a bit of historical TLC, or something that you think is reasonable to add, let me know.

All the above will be based on KK's appoval, so please no suggestions on removing templars or anything like that.

The idea is to be historically accurate, but maintain the fun/challenge, as there are other mods out there which focus on being as historically accurate as possible.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: I have attached some fixes for the traits and ancillaries files from bugs reported by people. In there is also a plugin for the pirates trigger. Just open up the campaign script for which ever campaign in notepad and Ctrl+F to find pirates and replace with the attached. Otherwise just unzip into the main SS folder and the files will all go to the right place.

Credit for some of this must go to gracul who has spent two weary weeks going through the vnvs parts and fixing any textual errors. Having done this several times myself, I know how tedious that can be, so I thank him for that.

The updates are NOT save game compatable as added some new stuff, so just have fun finishing off you current campaign first. Alos they are for SS 6.1, so if you have BYG you would have to add those in seperately.

Quark , ITs possible to do events that spawn units for certain faction right like the one for Wallace

We can make some historical battle or attacks happen like the crusades , etc etc

There a scrip to move characters around so this can be do able and if worked right would be awesome ^^ , BTW U know any tutorial on scrips ? causeI have only learned basics on trait and ancillary ^^

Quark: can you remove the Templars please?

    j/k

    Sorry couldn't resist.

Being a huge history fanatic myself, this idea sounds great. If you need any help on research or testing or anything let me know

Yes you can indeed spawn armies for factions based on events, eg people who like the French faction may need to watch out for those pesky cathars

As to tutorials, well alpaca has a section in the mod workshop forum, tools and tutorials section. Look out for his stuff or GrnEyedDvl.

Well any cool events or people, post away as will try and add in. Also if you have any details on minor faction leaders that would be good, eg I choose David the Builder for Georgia, I know he does not start till 1089, but you cannot give familiy trees, so choose to give them the best start possible.

I am focussing on EE, but any suggestion fo LE leaders also welcome.

    Hey Quark,
If you need someone who can go through traits and ancillaries descriptions and correct all the typos and stuff - im the man.
Ah! Messing around with traits you could look around to make the teutonic faction more 'unique'. I've already made some reasonable changes in my fix pack, using the traits of FactionLeaderTO etc., which had all the triggers already made, but somehow no one thought that having both "faction leader" and "hochmeister" traits sounds weird o_0.
    From the fix pack log:
-Reworked the ways of the Teutonic Order:
*Leader will carry the title of Hochmeister, while Grandmaster will be listed as a trait.
*Heir will carry the title of Grosskomtur, while Grand Commander will be listed as a trait.
*The leader and heir will no longer get both traits (no longer Hochmeister+Faction Leader).
*Disabled all "envies the heir" traits and all regent traits.

Generally this issue occurs when you plug in a lot of stuff but do not maintain the overall 'vision'. I am having a look at both militant orders, so will check this out . If you have any suggestions for a trait or position eg chancellor which would be unique to orders happy to work it in.

:hmmm:Not sure what you mean, perhaps you could give a better description? Are you talking traits or atrributes (Loyalty, Command etc)

    re emergent events:

    Kingdom of Jerusalem

any possibility of this emerging when the first Christian (Catholic) general captures it? (as England I have captured Jerusalem and my general is now "King of Jerusalem" but no faction emergence - approx turn 122 early era.)

also maybe make Portugal emergent as a a kingdom as soon as a Catholic general captures Lisbon?

(In 1080 Portugal is part of the kingdom of Castile and Leon, didn't become a separate kingdom until 1139 see:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry%2C_Count_of_Portugal
(note that Henry was a younger son of the Duke of Burgundy)

though you may want to allow for the emergence of separate Leon and Castile kingdoms as well!

The two kingdoms of León and Castile were split again around 1195, when a major defeat for Alfonso VIII of Castile weakened the authority of Castile.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Le%C3%B3n

but if we want a realistic Iberia/ Al_Andalus in 1080 we have to represent the taifa kingdoms as independent muslim entities, perhaps with a large Almoravid army waiting in north africa to be invited in?

Did you mean the tooltips for different stats like command, piety, chivlary?
    Like one of those?

{TMT_COMMAND_LEVEL_1}Young peasant girls laugh when this man tries to tell them what to do
{TMT_COMMAND_LEVEL_2 }A born follower, this man has no notion of what leadership is about
{TMT_COMMAND_LEVEL_3 }Understands the concepts of chain of command, but knows little of what orders to give
{TMT_COMMAND_LEVEL_4 }Hardly a tactical genius, but this man is showing some aptitude for leadership

When looking at factions I have to figure out which 'in game' settlements they belong to, so for instance Flanders becomes Brugges and Antwerp, but Groningen remains as Independent Flemish, Magdeburg becomes Saxony, as its the only settlement close to the region. Not sure which settlements apply to the above.

Although its doable to have emergent factions, as they already exist, what worries me is that some people like playing Portugal, and some may think 'whats the point of taking Jerusalem', if I then go and take it off them, along with their general who took it.

As to Iberia, yes I would hope to edit the minor factions to portray these as independent kingdoms.

:hmmm:I could stop crusades until 1100 and do a fake crusade, but this would effect the Templars, so very relucant to mess with KK's favourite faction.

    Iz-Master
I believe that the totals are hardcoded, but never looked. You can alter the traits descriptions of course for Loyal and Disloyal etc.

Well its outside the thread, but yes some more portraits would be nice as most are based on the SE set (you cannot really go wrong adding more princesses )

For screen shots I just save as a jpg from photoshop and upload to a image hosting site, then copy paste code.

btw Just unpack the SE portraits folder and match the size of these. I believe if you want to have a specific portrait then it must have its own folder eg Ghengis Khan.

    Quark,
Sounds like a great idea on expanding with more books and such. I love the traits system and its fun "growing" a general. Any idea when we will get an updated version perhaps 6.1 patch?

My goal indeed would be to have every faction done for a 6.1 update, maybe some minor factions like Georgia, Flanders, Serbia, Armenia and Knights of St John as well, kind of depends on how much work I give myself and that RL thing.
