Default An infantry commander needs help!!!!!!!(also i find mtw2 unbalanced)

    I play in m\m or h\h
My big problem with Mtw2 is i cannot play with infantry like i could in Rome
Usually create an army with a backbone infantry like sword militia or spearmen
the problem is when i win i win with big casualties so i have to redraw and reorganize. I also use about 3-4 missiles 3-4 cavalry 2 artillery.
The combination horse charge arrows and artillery hurts me a lot !!!

And by the way i think the game is very unbalanced it is more profitable to have knights that infantry another example is sword staff militia is too expensive and sucks in every role .
Any ideas for a successful infantry logic ??

Well militia units are no match to professional armies except if you are playing with italian factions. You should always use minimum 4 units of dismounted knights, 5 units of heavy cavalry, 4-5 ranged units and the rest should be spearman. Artilery is, by my oppinion, just a waste of space and it's more usefull to replace it with some aditional knights or DFK. I think that DFK and knights should be backbone of every MTW army with some spear and ranged support.

Unlike RTW, cavalry will dominate infantry in M2. You can keep this from happening though by mixing some pikes into your army. Spearmen will help, but will still get run over by heavily armored cavalry. About the missile and art casualties you're taking, you just need to evaluate the battle a little. If the enemy has more powerful ranged units than you, you should charge them immediately. The longer you wait the more uneven casualties you'll take, he'll maintain and increase his advantage.

Late period, cavalry become much less powerful though IMHO. Because cheap pikemen will start to round out armies and muskets will kill knights very quickly. I'll rely much more on infantry in the late period.

As for sword staff militia, don't use them. Don't use any halberd unit with the possible exception of Janissary Heavy Infantry. They don't seem to function properly in vanilla, but they work a lot better in Kingdoms.

I use spearman but heavily dependent upon cavalary. I love cavalary and use knights and archer along with light cavalary. Infantary are good but they are useless (to me) on an open field. They are only good when holding back armies (which are attacking you while you in castle) from the castle doors.

Artilery is useless too unless or otherwise you going to attack a besiging army.

Get rid of the missile and artillary units.

They are only useful when the enemy is approaching. After that they are useless. Replace them with some foot units and use them to run around and flank the enemy.

you must check the defence points of the infantry you make. The more defence the more they will stand against cavalry. Some units have attack ability while lacking defence. Also in case of enemy horses charge you should put your infantry in defence stand (the shield button). They will die less.

Well historically there's a reason cavalry ruled the Medieval battlefields.

That said I usually don't have more than 6 cavalry units myself, 4 heavies, 2 light in a given field army.

I was also dependent on infantry because mainly, their are some weakness in the cavalry that can be exploited same for the archers but the infantry, although some are weak in both attack, defense, etc., they are the "meat shields" for your army, but for me, without balance of missile, cavalry and infantry it will be hard for you to win a battle therefore, increasing the casualty rate.

I always upgrade my infantry's armor and weapons if possible, actually I'm they have the highest priority in my army.

Personally i just like infantry more than cavalry. Though in the game they need to be used with more thought. I usually play as the Danes & those Huscarls can tear up near anything else in the field when used properly.

I use my cavalry to charge in the back of engaged infantry and to take out archers & artillery, as well as to counter enemies heavy cavalry when needed and that's about it.

i have been thinking in some factions to use massive waves of infantry like Scots
    and Danes .

    Infantry is very crucial!

Sure, your heavy cavalry can tear apart most of anything, but most of their power comes in the charge. Afterwards, a horde of infantry can inflict uncomfortable losses on the heaviest of knights. And since knights are usually the most expensive type of unit, it would be a foolish commander who would seek to replace infantry altogether - and lose a hell of lot of expensive units in the process.

Infantry really are truly under-rated because of the multitude of roles they perform. Heavy infantry act as shock troops with their powerful charges, and also "hold the line" while your cavalry, light infantry and missile units flank the enemy.

The key is that infantry have the staying power in a protracted field battle that cavalry units simply lack. And that doesn't even take their usefulness in siege battles into account. You need those heavies when your castle is under seige!

To a degree the game is unbalanced historically. It is a game though. Yes heavy losses can be replaced easier than the real world would allow. Yes we recruit far too many knights versus the real world. However, the game plays quite well. Infantry, as remarked by others, cannot be excluded. The days of the knight ar numbered. Gunpowder makes the town levies powerful in the end.
