    Default Very Hard script question

    I'd like to be able to set the campaign difficulty to "Very Hard" without my relations with other factions continually declining.

    Is there anything in the script or other text files I can alter to change this?

    I'm talking specifically about Kingdoms.

    Yes it's very easy. Go into faction_relations, and look for "normalize" (or "normalise"). Take out the little snippet which tries to bring global relations down, and it won't happen.

    "If ye love wealth greater than liberty,
    the tranquility of servitude greater than
    the animating contest for freedom, go
    home from us in peace. We seek not
    your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch
    down and lick the hand that feeds you,
    and may posterity forget that ye were
    our countrymen."

    I just changed the entry to this:

    Trigger 0095_Update_Very_Hard_Difficulty
    WhenToTest FactionTurnStart

    Condition CampaignDifficulty = very_hard

    FactionStanding exclude_factions { } normalise 0.0 50

    The number that comes after "normalize" is key, I've found. In all the other difficulty levels, it's 0.0. On easy difficulty, it's "0.5 50", which I assume means that your faction relations actually grow a little bit turn by turn. It's only with very hard difficulty that you lose reputation per turn (hence -0.5).

    Sound correct?

    What that line says is that on very hard the your relations with other factions will tend towards neutral, -1 being very bad, 1 being good. The smaller the number at the end the quicker they change, as its a divisor.

    So it is harder for you to maintain good relations with factions. At the top of the file is where the change points are eg

    relations_improved_thresholds
    {
    0.25
    0.5
    0.8
    }

    Personally I would have said that that was a generous setting.
