Default Crusaders, where is the love?

I had hoped that the Templars and the kingdom of Jerusalem would have been more finished through 6.0, but sadly there isnt much improvement since they where put into the mod.

The knights of Antioch still have the Tripoli horses, and the jerusalem bodyguards still have the vanilla english partial plate when upgraded.
Perhaps the antioch and edessan units could be replaced with hospitaller units.

Considering appearance and units, much could be borrowed from the teutonic order for the templars.

Here is a model suggestion for upgraded templar knights, upgraded templar zweihanders, and upgraded dismounted templar knights.

They could receive the body model of the upgraded hallbruders, that would give them partial plate, but keep them in long surcoats, templars are not templars without their long surcoats after all.
For headgear, they could get the same helmets that the templars in the kingdoms expansion get.

Now, wouldnt that give a far more realistic and more awe inspiring look to them?

I must agree with Inhuman One here, surcoats of templars is importat, I myself have removed the visual upgrades for the templars, so that they can keep their pretty surcoats, but yeah, templars with the teutonic models would be great.

why would templars have fur coats in the hot holy land? im not disputing your claim inhuman one but i don't understand. Although i do think your ideas are excellent

Just like the elephant animation, this Carthage scenario is actually in the game, it just has a small percantage factor for showing up, that's all...

They won't have fur-coats if you retexture them properly? Maybe it will look like fur coats though, I must admit that I haven't looked at the models that closely.

Edit: I checked the models ingame, and they don't really have fur coats I belive, thick clothing and chainmail, but no fur. Don't alot of people in the middle east and other deserts etc. have quite alot of clothing for keeping the heat away from your skin etc.?

I guess since the breeze is hotter than the temparature and that is why they do it...even though it seems insane.
    But fur coats???

Yeah, I think that's why, or because of the sun, with thick layers of clothing, maybe just the outer ones get really heated, I don't know. Still, the halbrüdders don't have fur coats. so it's okay.

Retexturing them would be easy aswell, you would only need to brighten up the surcoat to match the original a bit, and change the crosses for red ones etc.

The teutonics dont seem to have fur coats, the long surcoats with partial plate that they have would be ideal for the templars though.

While the templars never got to use plate armor, I am sure that if they would wear partial plate, they would still proudly display their surcoats, just like the teutonic knights.

Its does not matter if Templars historically did not get to see the bright shining suits of 14th century plate armor or not (which they did see plate armor considering iron and boiled leather plate armor started to re-appear by the year 1190) this game is not about following history, its about what if's.

If Ireland had survived to English invasions would they have advanced their armies further?

    Yes.

    Why would the Templars not?

His point was that if they would they'd use surcoats on top of the armor, no?

Anyway, this sort of retexture should be pretty easy to do, maybe not change the models of the helmets etc. (I can't do that atleast), but the texture itself should be easy, I however, have no idea how to add the change in the model etc. ingame properly, since when I try something like that the model works, but it has no textures, and I don't really know how to. Also, I'm too busy to actually mod alot, unfortunatly.

I like very much the mix of Antioch and Jerusalem troops for the Kingdom of Jerusalem. As a feudal state, the troops did not looked uniform, every soldier weared the colours of his lord, so the men-at-arms of the King weared Jerusalem colours, Prince of Antioch's men weared Antioch colours...

But the plate armour of some Templar troops is annoying. Especially the Templar Guard. I find them very ugly, that's my opinion. I'd re-terxture them, but all this thing of making textures and converting .texture archives on .dds archives seems to me very complicated.

Converting the textures is actually very easy with the right program (can't remember where I downloaded it though), you just convert the texture into .dds, edit it with photoshop or similar with a .dds plugin installed, and then convert it back to .texture.

This would be really good if someone managed to do this, I never have upgraded the Templar units due to the fact that afterwards they look worse than before. So I just stick to no upgrades but mass amounts.

So if someone could do this, it would make the Templars even better for me!

If templars would use plate armor, they still wouldnt forsake their order.

The surcoat is sort of their uniform and symbol, not wearing it into battle would be showing disrespect to their order.

The upgraded hallbruder have partial plate, simply with a surcoat so the armor level would not be changed at all, the appearance would simply be changed to something more appropriate.

Inhuman, I'll see if I can edit the textures abit, just for a test, to see how it looks, if it works, I'll upload the textures here so that someone with skill can implement it into the game.

Edit: Well, here's what I came up with after some (really sloppy and quick) editing, so this is kindof how it would look if someone retextured, only abit better (I hope).

    Enjoy:
(the dismounted hallbrüdders are mostly there to show how foot-units could look.

That does look a lot better, good work.

Maybe some of the chain around the neck might need to be removed to show the red cross better?

it's probably possible, if one is good at editing normal-maps etc. which I'm not. ^^

heh, I cant mod at all, I have to stick to giving suggestions.

Those templars look a lot better than the current upgraded version though, if they could also get the templar helmets that would be awesome.

Maybe you should post it in the ideas/suggestion-thread? (I guess there must be one about this mod, right?), then King Kong might see it and take heed ^^ Otherwise we'll just have to hope some kind modder sees this and helps.
