Increase performance in battles

whats the best options to select to have optimum quality and quantity in battles?
i like having huge formations as battles feels more realistic,my laptop specs are as follows-toshiba
1.8 ghz intel duo proc.,x1600 ati 512mb graphics card,1536 MB ram,80 gb hard drive

Ouch, yea you'd probably have to lower most of them. Unit Detail, bloom, reflections etc are some killers..

what about shadows? and what does effects even do?
by default the game puts all my settings on high,but i lowered resolution and put 2X AA and 16X AT,and lowered veg detail and buildings and the grass somewhat

lol wtf? u cant run it decently at 2xaa on huge with 16xat on that laptop. turn off aa and grass for a start.

Shadows and AA are the killers.
I have a duel core 2.8 ghz, 2gb ram, ATI x1300 256mb, And I can run things at a good pace with everything on high except I have AA off texture filtering on Bilinear and unit scale on normal. Only noticable FPS drop is on battles with full stacks on both sides and in a huge city or citadel.

But with your specs I don't see any reason why you cannot go with huge unit scales. Just turn off AA and Shadows. Maybe bloom too.

hey thanks huge battles run a lot better now,and everything thus far is smooth,only problem i foresee is if there might be reinforcements,and the mongols tend to brings stacks of those

I bought this computer last summer with the honest intention of getting reinforcements using the "huge" troop size. I still get the message about upgrading my pc. If I turn the other crap down, will it be possible to get battles involving more than 2 full stacks?
