Default Anything ignoble about assassinating Pyrhus rather than fighting him?

I just started a Roman campaign, and instead of fighting Pyrhus on the field I sent my trusty assassin after him. Well, he succeeded, on him and Kreon! Now Tarentum is leaderless, while my three legions have it surrounded. In a few turns I'll move in to take out the remnants of a once mighty army with minimal losses.

It seems like a cowardly tactic to me, but winning is winning right?

    Your thoughts?

A single blade can often triumph where many would not. I say your assassin was brave and your empire is better off for it.

Assassination of a leader who refuses dispute-resolution via mediation or via personal, or championed individual combat is a public service.

It depends on personal preference. I love taking him on every single time i start a new roman campaign.

I saw cowardly. Better for you to kill him in the glory of battle then in his sleep.

    But that's me.

It WOULD be cool if assasinating the General really made a difference on the battlefield. I've always thought that the AI battle difficulty in a campaign should reflect how many stars the General has, meaning that assasins would actually be useful for something.

I remember in Shogun it actually had an impact on morale if the general died before the battle started. Good times.

Hell yes! Shogun was a real classic. The mongol invasion campaign was rock hard though if you played as the Japs.

Yes indeed! That game had incredible atmosphere. Thinking about it makes me want to dig around for the disk again.

Yeah I mean, it was a 4% chance of victory and he killed him. But, that morale feature in Shogun is sick...why would the CA take it out of Rome?

Total War Shogun, This was one of the best games ever played. I started playing this game when it was still a board game called Shogun. I even replaced every peice in the game with die cast pieces and incorporated horses. I eventually graduated to the video game with my then Kick ass computer which was a 486 Dx, Who'd have figured that we would be where we are today with computers and graphics.

Pyrhus really isn't hard to defeat in battle, but if you got a 4% chance and WON then that assassin has pure skills

Now what would be really fun is if you mannaged to assainate all the family members of a faction so they get destroyed...

I would only resort to assassinating an enemy leader if i couldn't draw him into battle.

Greek and Roman commanders would certainly try and engage an enemy general themselves, as no greater honour and glory could be found then following Alexanders and Homers example of single combat between generals.

Assassination though, Is certainly not ahistorical, just ask Selecuas.

My assassins are used primarily for taking out other factions spies and assassins. Counter-espionage in other words.

Yup, thats what i normally use them for- making sure my generals arent on the wrong end of enemy blades and keeping spies firmly off my territory.

It is like about Julius Caesar since they couldn't beat him on the battlefield, so they assasinated him on the senate floor instead.
