    Default Quick, Dumb Question

So I here that Indiana might actually matter for once, and I want to support Obama, but I have no idea about voting. I am not registered, is there still time to do that? Or do I even have to to vote in this thingy coming up? I just turned 18 last summer so I have no idea about how to go about this.

its pretty easy to sign up. u can do it over the internet by putting 'voter registration' into google and it should bring u to some sign up pages.

hell u can register through the WWE if u want to, i did.

and u dont have to vote in the primary. it will add support for Obama, but it is not required for voting in the general election.

good for u getting to vote so soon, i had to wait longer to vote for president.

really not griping? maybe u should reread ur origonal posts. u were insulting americans, one in particular, and then went to praise ur glorious country for having a higher voting % then we do. weak.

not to mention that this threads topic has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with wat u decided to bring up for no other reason then u trying to be a smart ass.

He was asking how to register and he just hit the voting age, people arent automatically born with knowledge of goverment paperwork and while he could have found the answer in a thousand other places including school or hell the frigging DMV he asked here....so why not take your offtopic lecturing elsewhere.

Anyway Nap, http://www.in.gov/sos/elections/vote_reg.html Looks like you missed the cutoff date for primary registration but still months to go for general election.

actually, it was an ironic joke. thats why i used the word irony. then on the next line i said "seriously, good on you for doing what a third of your fellows are too lazy to do."

why did i use an ironic joke, because here in the world outside the united states, we think its one hell of a great joke every time the us president gets on a stage and talks about democratic values, when the unite states has one of the lowest voter turnouts amongst democracies.

now, pull your knee jerk reactions back a little and perhaps engage in a discussion. rather than damning me for making a joke at the expense of your quite obviously self consciously poor democracy.. perhaps talk with me as barnabyjones or sideman did, about the technicalities of voting in america.. its a lot more constructive than coming in here and going "you're dumb go away"... you might find i was actually talking about why voting is so important.. shock horror.

i am not anti american, and any look at my post history would prove this. however you really do give your country a bad name, if this is how difference of opinion is treated in the united states, no wonder people get so disillusioned with democracy and sit at home watching sports instead of voting...

    shame on you.

Many of us have come to the correct conclusion that it doesn't matter who you vote for. Since both potential candidates suck.

if a third of you decided this, a viable third candidate might emerge. however i think my first conclusion is more accurate..

Keep in mind, its 1/3 of a total population many, many times that of lovely NZ.

Also, for some of us, voting is essentially pointless. I live in Illinois, where Obama, and democrats as a whole, win hands down, no questions asked. So for me to vote, only adds to the popular vote.

I often feel like my vote is pointless, even if I chose to vote for a Republican this time around.

I will still vote though, I take my right to vote seriously.

and this has what to do with anything? new zealanders vote in higher percentage numbers because we care about who governs us, not because we are a small country

again.. how does this matter? thats not the point of democracy. go convince the other non voters that they should vote and you might change this..

if everyone thought like you, then nobody would vote. democracy is about the mass, not the individual. it discovers who is the most popular people across all of society, not just you. if you can go out and convince the 1/3 of americans who dont vote that they should vote for your favourite candidate, they might just get in. see how it works now...

    NEW ZEALAND IS A COUNTRY!?

I thought only birds and naitives lived there...

Anyway I wouldn't vote either if I was an American, I don't like any of the candidates. The republican seems to be better than the rest but still... meh.

the main reason we need to get rid of the electoral college is stated right here

and people, is antea's joke really that big of deal?

no need to get all up in arms about it.

Not to mention he has a point.

(though, btw Antea, we're a republic, not a democracy)

as to the OP: this probably isn't the best place to look, as states have their own way of registering. But look at your state's government website, do some other web browsing, and you'll surely find the answer

i wasnt pissing and moaning about anything. i was trying to explain why people should vote.. you'll also notice up there i congratulated the guy up there for wanting to get out there and do it.

i have no gripe about americans. just dont like it when i hear the 'my vote doesnt count' attitude - and will have a go at anyone who brings it to a discussion, no matter where in the world they are from.

so. other than that, have you any other gripes with me? or will you stfu now?

An error in logic you have there.

1/3 of our country decides not to vote, but they don't all agree on who would do better than the current candidates (who 1/3 of us had decided aren't worth our time)

While, if we were all of the same political alignment we could do something, we're not - and only maybe 1/8 of us are in any one given zone. (Liberal, conservative, socialist, nationalist, fascist, isolationist, hippies, or libertarians) There is no viable way to organize ourselves a candidate that has any chance of winning... Especially since most of us are the poorer section of society.

probably wasnt worded totally correctly i guess.. but..

isnt the the point of convincing people that your cause is valid is to make them vote for you? who cares if they are a liberal or a greenie or a nazi. you go out and campaign to convince them to vote for you. thats why there are different results in every election... cause people change their minds.

Money is the limiting factor. The US is huge - hugely bigly huge. Geographically, by population and monetarily. Each of the major players in the US race collected nearly $200,000,000 to spend convincing people to vote for them. Our minor candidates fail at collecting enough to make them matter, and in general can't break into the two party system. As a result, the majority of us aren't represented - and many stopped voting.
