We need a shadow faction for that and the limit of factions has been reached.

Ya, would be great but you would need another faction slot to create Spain but limit is reached

¿Why? Castille is Spain but renowned. And Aragon can be conquered. And if this can be done, then a union between Kiev and Novgorod, and between Lithuania and Poland, and between Denmark and Norway, should be possible.

What is more, this dynastic union (Castille and Aragon, I mean) happened after the Middle Age.

Besides, as a personal appointment, and since I am a pesky Catalan nationalist, I have no interest on join with Castille. I conquer it!

You can simulate this by changing the factions name in some file but I can't remember where it is. Though it is also possible to change a factions name 3 times with a script (though I ain't sure), so maybe KK puts it in the next version.

Why the hell did they put in a faction limit anyway?

I had always wondered, i guess its some technological limitation of the engine.

Anyways, Spain only officially came into existence around 1490 something like that.

This game is about changing history but, the Medieval age had almost ended by then anyways.

Even with the dynastic union of Aragon and Castille, and the Habsburg monarchy, Spain did not became an official and unified kingdom until the first Bourbon, Philip V, after the Succession War (around 1716, if I remember well). Even under the control of mighty Charles V and Philip II, Spain was a confederation of Castille, Aragon, Mallorca, Catalonia, later Portugal, among other minor domains.

Changind the faction's name seems to be a good answer. The file expand.txt allows to change faction's name even in saved games.

Alternatively one might want to consider the splitting of castile and leon, as happened historically.
