Is it possible and relatively easy to give them Armour Piercing arrows?
And if so, could I then increase their cost to compensate?

Personally, I'd prefer seeing seeing a Byzantine Empire in the 1600s, and further. Realism? ha! The glory of crushing Rome's enemies comes before questions on why you have greeks with guns running around the Middle East and beyond.
yes in the edu change the arrow type
let me take a look and see what exaticaly has to be done then i will post it here for you (brb)
ok
go to the EDU (total war/mods/ss/data) hit ctrl F type in "byzantine g" go to the line that says "stat_pri_attr" and change the "NO" to ap and that should make the arrows Armour piercing.
hope it helps
Yeah it did. Loaded up a custom battle and tested it. thanks.

If you don't mind, what were the results? before and after the change.
well armour piercing means that it only counts half the armour rating so their probably even MORE deadly lol
Deadlier, yeah, but not exceptionally so. Would like to increase their cost to compensate, but other than that, it's fine. Seemed a bit lacking compared to others and given they're the 'good' archers for byzantines, thought they deserved it. Either that or upgrade their melee capabilities.

you can do all that in the same place (EDU) read the top and it tell you what all the line are for and what they mean. if you need any help let me know
I don't know the effect it'd have on the AI when increasing recuitment costs, but I'd still like them to use the unit..so would increasing upkeep costs for the new, improved Guard Archers make them use it, but sparingly?

not with the money script but i would keep the upkeep the same and only make them more expensive to recruit
I'll do that, then. As soon as I'm done with this Scottish campaign.
