Default Did the Ghorids really lack spears?

That is a little surprising, since spears are fundamental tools of war and easy to make. I -love- this faction, and kind of enjoy this 'fatal flaw' but I doubt how historical it is. No biggie really, I can still buy some Punjabi spearmen.

Also, do I get to train elephants later on? It has them down on the custom battle roster.

Also, to keep from making thread after thread, I have a few more questions I will just tack on.

    1. Do the Mongols come my way when they show up?
    2. Are the rocket launchers still in? The boxes that are moved around I mean. I loved those, and they seemed reasonable.
    3. How exactly are the Crusades handled? Is there an army spawned for each one, and what faction are they, rebels? If Rebels, what does the city they capture become, a rebel settlement?

I think I might get to work making a new sig to represent my fondness of these badass red and black warriors.

    From what i know:
_As Ghorids, you can't train no elephant
_Yes, they lack big of spearmen.

    1, No, normally they don't .
2, No, i saw them in custom battle (not sure) but i've never seen them in campaign.
3, They come from time to time. From my exp, if this time they appear in Constantinople, the next one will be around Jerusalem and go on. They usually are KDJ but some time they're rebel .And of course, if you lose the city, it'll become rebel .

I remember Ahiga said, that hsitorically the Ghorids were known for their fine spearmen. They didn't get any in BC to balance the factions out...

But... then why exclude them? You could just exclude something else that they weren't known for.

The magic word is Gameplay... the same reason why ERE has no HAs

We sort of went with "raging fanatical invaders" stereotyping for the poor ghorids when we started and made them "attack heavy" faction. But there is no fundamental reason (balance or historical) why ghorids should lack spearmen aside from the fact that we learnt of their professional "Karwah" spear wall a but late into the mod's progress.

While giving factions "severe" weaknesses sounded like a good idea back when we were developing ideas, I'm now generally (on a personal level) against it. I think I'd like to give factions like Ghorids and Rum Turks their own decent spearmen and give factions like ERE and Northern Rajputs their own medium horse archers.

Sounds like the best idea to me. I can understand your thinking. On one hand I like that the faction is so visually appealing and aggressive, yet has crap defense, but it takes away some of the immersion to know they actually did have some decent spears.

I'm working on a screenshot for the fan-art thread of these guys. Too bad this will be the only mod I'll be able to find them in. They are too far away from a Europe setting, and too far away from an Asian settings. "Stuck in the middle with you."

Yep, BC will be the first and last game or piece of entertainment to ever feature the Ghurids I think.

Its a bit sad, because historically the Ghurids are extremely important, especially the India. Without the Ghurids countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh would probably not exist. Also they laid the foundations of Muslim rule in northern India that would later simply be taken over and utilized by the more famous Mughals.

I have no argument about the balance rationale there - for such a powerful and expansive power like the Ghorids, creating a weakness in defense was an excellent move.

I'm wondering if there could be an option to have such units PRESENT in BC but not in the original unmodded version - like 'Karwah' Spearmen present in the EDU with mesh, skin, unit card and info portrait, but with no_custom for multiplayer and unavailable in building recruitment. The same for Byzantine Vardariotai horse archers or else. Then either individual players who crave maximum historical accuracy can mod them in themselves with a little direction, or there could be a separate, very minor download for such a purpose.

That would then create extra work, with a chance that it would never be seen. The Vardaratoi have a very unique look that would require some time spent on a mesh unless the vanilla one was just re-skinned.

You know, I'd probably learn to mod enough that I could take a nice euro mod like SS and throw the Ghorids in there. For my own personal, private use ofcourse! If for nothing else but to see how the Pope like a 'real' Jihad.

Meh, looks better with png or bmp, but I like it. >.>

You'd think those programing guys they have by the bucketload in Bangalore would started churning out games by now, and they would include the Ghorids probably...maybe they have but they just fall under our radar.
Who cares if we don't learn from History, its bloodly interesting.

They're too busy writing the code for M2TW at $3/hour (big money when converted to Rupees!) to bother with honoring their own history! Outsourcing FTW.
