Default RM2 on the Alex.exe - Download the fix here

I, and many others have the Alexander expansion installed on our PCs, so I have made a set of instructions that will hopefully fix your RM to run using the Alex.exe, meaning more clever AI on the battlefield and the Campaign map, and more naval activity on the AI's part. It is also more stable that RTW.exe so there are much less Engine based CTDs.

    Step 1:

Download the .zip archive and extract it to your Rome Medieval data folder (the mod switcher). Click 'yes' to overwrite.

    Step 2:

copy the Alex.exe itself into your Rome Medieval folder.

    Step 3:

copy the Chat_filter.san into both your data folder AND your RomeMedievalMOD/Data folder.

    Step 4:

Create a new shortcut for Rome Medieval 2, go to properties and edit the target line so that it looks something like this:

    "C:\Rome Medieval 2 beta\RomeTW-ALX.exe" -mod:RomeMedievalMOD -nm -show_err -mod: -noalexander

The bit in red is the important part.

Your Rome Medieval 2 should now be configured to play using the Alex.exe AS LONG AS YOU USE THE NEW SHORTCUT.

This change is savegame compatible, so you can continue your campaign on the Alex.exe without having to restart.

    Enjoy!

No problem, and I have to say, it makes a great improvement. In my France campaign the English keep coming back across the channel, which means a real 100 years war.

Do I need to install Alexander on the computer? Or I can just copy the file? Thanks

I don't think you can get the .exe or the chat_filter.san without installing it on your PC, but essentially those arethe only two files from the expansion required.

Thanks. Can you upload chat_filter.san if it is not a big file?

mmm I could, but It would be illegal I think... I've no intention of getting on the wrong side of copyright laws. It being a part of the software and all.

Again, thank you for your work.

My campaign saved in Alex.exe can not be loaded in RTW.exe. Screen jumped back to main menu in the beginning of the loading.

Yes, you can load a game started with RTW.exe on ALX.exe, but not the other way round.

First of all thanks for the patch. Definitely a +REP!

You were correct to not post the chat_filter.san file. We can only post modded files.

    Now, some questions.....

In step 1 you need to specify which data folder the files are to be installed in. In step 3 you have "copy the Chat_filter.san into both your data folder AND your RomeMedievalMOD/Data folder" so by implication the first step installs to the main data folder and not the RM one (which doesn't make that much sense as the -mod: switch is being used.

    Is that correct?

Do you really need two "-mod:" in the target line?

I find when I've installed the above I can continue a campaign but when I start a new campaign I get 'select item from list' which usually implies that I've not installed RTW 1.5 RTW 1.6 (which I have). When I launch the game with RTW I get 1.5 on the options menu (I can then start a campaign). When I launch the game with RTW ALEX I get 1.9 on the options menu.

    1. Perhaps you don't need two, but It works with two

    2. That needs fixing. It needs to go in the RM mod switcher one.

    3. I had some problems trying to work out which folder the chat_filter.san ought to go in, so in the end putting it in both folders seemed to do the trick.

    4. Yes, both BI and Alex seem to have this problem. I think it has something to do with the fact its a mod switcher. If you want to play the main campaign using BI or Alex, you will find 'Medieval campaign' on the list of custom campaigns, next to the early, high and crusade campaigns.

I played around with the various menus and managed to start a campaign as you described.

I am fairly sure that you only need the chat_filter.san in the data folder that is being used by the game (I found out with another mod switch game). Better safe than sorry though.

I am toying with adding this mod (to replace my MTW/VI with XL campaigns), but it seems very buggy. With this bit, it becomes a distinct possiability...

Add "-noalexander" command, and you can play custom battles, and Imperial(Medieval) Campaign.I tested it with other mods, and it worked, I'm pretty sure it will work with this one too.

I don't think the Pope feature has been enacted as yet. It will be in RM 3 though I believe.
