anyone know how much population it takes for a wooden castle to be able to upgrade to a castle and then to fortress, etc
the same with cities?

Just like the elephant animation, this Carthage scenario is actually in the game, it just has a small percantage factor for showing up, that's all..."we're way way pre-alpha and what that means is there is loads of features not just in terms of the graphics but also in terms of the combat and animations that actually aren't in the game yet.So the final game is actually gonna look way way better than this!” - James Russell, CA

your best choice in my own experiance is either to convert a castle to a large town then just set the tax on low then dont build stone walls when they cry out for it an when the pop cap have gone sky high i upgrade em to castle that way they ask for fortress upgrade right after.... the growt rate on castle is just too low to ever get a citadel or fortress in the first 100 turns lol sad but true something they should fix if u ask me its really expensive to convert your castle in that method i just said to get your damn fortress up an running

not true. yea, getting a citadel is impossible... but so long as you build farms before anything else, and upgrade them before upgrading anything else, you can get a fortress before 100... same for a huge city.
especially if you start with a fort, like palermo... but even if its only a castle like nottingham, its still doable... just gimps your war machine a little because you gotta put off making military structures until after the farms are built.
from my games it seems like huge cities are 30000 pop, citadels are 15000, forts are 10000, large cities are 20000, castles are 15000, cities are 15000, and so on down.

fastest way to get big castles(fortress + citadel) is to let the computer controlled factions own them all, take only cities for yourself and hire plenty of castle-like mercenaries. then when you see one large enough, go take it.

The best way to get fast growth in castles is to put high chivalry generals there. A general with 10 in chivalry gives +5% growth.
Also build first farms and chapel also helps with it's 5% health bonus.
