    Icon10 Please some reliable strategies!!

I have noticed that in each campaign that you tend to use a different strategy for all the factions, but I was wanting to see if anyone has a reliable strategy that worked with more than just one faction and if so what is it? I love the game and have beaten it on all levels but just tired of developing a new strategy for almost each faction I play!

the art of war requires you to change, adapt and find strategies which work.

you have to understand that the "best strategy" is determined by army mix, the geography of the battlefield, the enemies army, even the general and lots of other things. there is no recipie

i agree with samir, if there was a strategy for more than one factions it wouldn't nearly as effective as using individual strategies for different factions. having a strategy for more than one faction would be more of tips in my opinion.

The only strategy that works with many factions is the un-detailed and obvious one: expand, get lots of cash, use cash to get good troops, use good troops for war, conquer the world.
Making it more detailed than that is hard, if you donīt want to drag individual factions into the discussion.

All cavalry armies, maybe with a few elephants and camels thrown in for good measure. Expensive as can be, but works like a charm (almost) every time

I would hate this game if every faction used the same strategy in every battle in every campaign on every terrain.

Spot On +rep. I've played non-TW games with loads of factions and all that, and the same strategy and stuff never failed no matter what the player did. It was a bit like going on auto-pilot but with a different colour.

Well it is hard to say what will be one winning strategy for all factions during long campaign, but usually you can figure out best strategy for opening moves.

For example, as Venice I always trade Iraklion for Bologna with HRE first turn. They demand no more than 1000 gold and you have solid centralized territory, which in my opinion is great starting strategy. Also by doing this you can delay war with Byzantine for a few turns – enough to kill Milan and pretty much secure your early position in the game.

    The general rules are:
Don’t fight too many wars before you have solid economy
When you expand think if you can easily defend new territories
Play pope game as a catholic faction and use crusades / jihads to you advantage.
As Turks/Russia/Egypt – be prepared for Mongol an Timurid invasion because they can easily ruin well going campaign in just a few turns
And above all – do what it takes to have fun, be creative and experiment freely because M2TW is such a deep and beautiful game !

Aye, Med2 is a rocking game indeed I'd never dream though of trading land with the ai, and as Venice I'd never trade Iraklion with anyone, not even Miss World,

Islands I regard as a gift from God as its virtually money in the bank and invasion free. I'd rather throw my puter out of the window than give land to the ai.

Aye, fair enough I stand duly chastised!! Bit of an overaction eh?!

Guess I was reeling in shock when I read Iraklion being traded away...there are parts of my campaign map which are Forever Fireright. And I'll fight to the last peasant to keep it that way.

Iraklion is actually one of my more hated settlements. Islands make crap money due to no land trade whatsoever. On top of that, Iraklion is so centrally located that it provokes a war with so many factions. I've had Sicily, Moors, Egyptians(!), Byzantines(!), Turks and KoJ attack it sometime or another. The only good thing about it is that it's a great stopover place to quickly train agents or navies, re-train militia armies or re-stock on Crusaders.

No love for Iraklion Mr Spartan90? hating Iraklion?

Iraklion is where its at..bang in the middle of the map, virtually invasion free, and Fireright Priority #1 no matter which faction I play.

He who controls Iraklion, controls the map.

Really? Iraklion has to be one of my most contested regions ever. Yet, it barely makes me any money because there's no land trade (like nearby Rhodes). It's penalties far outweigh the benefits IMO. Let the other 5 or so factions fight over it like a pack of bloodthirsty scavengers, and concentrate your forces in more wealthier, peaceful regions

I have never seen anyone else than the Byzantines try to take it from the Venetians, and even that is quite rarely

What difficulty are you playing? I've had (on separate occasions) six various factions attack Iraklion. If someone wishes to invade my empire, that is generally always their first target.

Iraklion Rocks!! Same with Rhodes and other islands in the Mediterranean...money in the bank, no rebel stack nonsense, and a player is bang in the middle of the map to control all the action.

Bung a cheapo militia stack outside or at each end of the islands and the ai usually just sails on by.
As the florins roll in and wealth grows...so does the fleet. Any invasion or hostility nonsense... everyone gets blockaded.

They shall not pass and all that
