Default Quesion about cd burning software

    Alphonso,

I believe you to be the most technologable on this forum so I'm going ask you. There seems to be problems between Securom and 1:1 cd burners such as Nero.
Please fill in the blanks of my knowledge. From what I have read, Securom will shut down games if it thinks it has found pirate material on your computer even if it is not related to that game. You say you have no problems with Nero. DarkRTW says he has no problems with Power ISO. You mentioned other programs have had conflicts with Roxio.
Having never owned or used any of them I am at a loss what the conflicts could be other than intellectual rights.
Any explanation on the technological reasoning would be appreciated. If I am going help here this is something I need to learn. If you think this info is too sensitive for this forum, pm me, please.

Well, thanks for the compliment, its good to have someone else here that I trust in answering questions so I can enjoy my weekend. To your question, Securom is good software, but the fact that developers can play with it causes issues. There are a few demos like The Sims 2 comes to mind, where EA messed up Securom and the game may not launch and cause burners and antivirus to fail.

Many people have 0 issues with Securom unless they do something to mess up. People who use cracks and download illegal software mess up their computers and they deserve it. However, there are people who treat computers like Playstations and get these errors because of botched games. I personally have installed pirated software before I buy to see if I like it. As a kid, I bought way too many games and they sucked and 3 months allowance went down the drain.

I have Nero and Power ISO on my computer write now and have no issues with any of the software. Having never seen Securom fail, its hard for me to help people since I am not at their computer and dont know what they have done. Roxio is a very well known and hated software that is embedded in a lot of computers, like Dell in a different post. This software sucks and it gets down to bad programming where programs overlap each other. Virus software tries to look for viruses and create too many false positives because this copyright protection looks like a virus.

I also install copiers and some software included need to be excepted by firewalls because they think its a worm. Software like Nero and Roxio will gladly burn, but they have to look for the copyright protection and its not always the same for each disc.

To conclude, you really need to learn that all this software on their computer can really bog the system and cause conflicts. Knowing what people have on their computer can help, but people may not always know. However, with the increase in cracks and people complaining about problems, I can only see that most of the people on these forums have screwed up there computer and want a magic fix for their illegal activity. And to those who legimately try to play the game and get these errors, then we need to look at the DVDs since scratches and marks occur all the time, people cant see it. Or have them email Securom which can help them out.

Thank you for the reply. What you have said is how I have felt for a long time. For the unknowing, Microsoft for XP uses Safedisk and so does Maxis for SimCity 3000 Unlimited. I have had no problems with either one even with Cheat Engine installed. Instead of using it for making trainers, it can be used as a hex editor for legitimate purposes like M2TW's texture files.
