    I am playing a game as the french and around 30 or so rounds into it. i have had Scotland and Vince excommunicated by the pope so i though I would crusade against the scots but when I looked at the crusade targets its only the orignal ones from the start of the game....i.e. the holy lands and some morrish targets....

    I noticed that too, wasn't sure why it only lists some cities... like for instance, when the HRE was excommunicated, it showed Frankfurt as a possible crusade target, but no other HRE settlements. When Leon-Castile was excommunicated, they had none to crusade for.

    It is also really silly that you cant go in crusade for Jerusalem. Atleast I have never got that option. it is always Cairo.

    I always see Jerusalem as a possible target. Are you saying the pope declares crusades to Cairo? That's normal, it's the Fatimids' capitol, and they're probably the faction that took Jerusalem. You have to go into the overview for the pope to ask him to call a crusade to a destination of your choice, but the option is only available when there is not currently a crusade, and when a crusade has not recently been called. for instance: try at the very beginning of the game. also, if your relationship rating with the pope is below average, you won't be able to ask him to call a crusade.

    no clue if it was intended or not, and after two months of beta testing I honestly do not remember if this is the way it is in vanilla m2tw!

    try changing the name of this thread to a purposeful question, might get the right eyes viewing it.

    I know that. But I myself cant remember ever seen Jerusalem in list when I myself have called crusade. Even when it is in Fatimid control. Mayby I just remember wrong. It has been some time from my English campaing.

    Maybe it's not a bug at all, after all the only place a crusade would be called to would be somewhere that was either considered holy or somewhere that christianity was threatened by Islam. Hence the proto/pre-crusades around Spain and all of the other crusades targets were in the Levant (even if people got a bit side-tracked in eastern europe).

    I mean I know TW is about changing history, but it is a bit silly to crusade toward London or Marseilles.

    Although you can declare the initial startup crusade and jihad targets, once the game starts the game chooses what can be a target based on hardcoded decisions. People have not even been able to figure out why for instance Cario is the first choosen by the Ai, rather than Jerusalem. It is suspected that it has to do with population size and faction rating. So its not a bug, just the way the game works.

    As to not being able to make the Pope declare on a target that is your choice but his, well, don't really think that is a bug, he is the Pope you know.

    To err is human, but to really foul things up you need a computer.

    i belive you can edit locations of crusades by find the descr_regions file in the base folder of SS and say if you wanted to call of crusade against Edinburgh then you would change it from :

    Edinburgh_Province
    Edinburgh
    scotland
    Scots_Rebels
    220 225 255
    dyes, atlantic, explorers_guild
    5
    5
    religions { catholic 90 orthodox 0 islam 0 pagan 5 heretic 5 }

    to

    Edinburgh_Province
    Edinburgh
    scotland
    Scots_Rebels
    220 225 255
    dyes, atlantic, explorers_guild, crusade
    5
    5
    religions { catholic 90 orthodox 0 islam 0 pagan 5 heretic 5 }

    im not 100% sure if that would work, just an idea. And i would imagine that it wouldnt work with an existing save file, plus if you were gonna try this dont forget to delete the map file which is also in the base folder. From what ive seen as well after playing as scotland in 5.1 and calling a crusade on London the AI dont seem to want to travel accross the sea to get the the british isles so they dont both joining the crusade

    EDIT: I have tryed this myself by making most provinces in the holy land a crusade target and it seemed to work

    Maybe the scottish cities were not worthy to be a crusade target. Maybe they are too small.

    I was also thinking size actually matters on a Crusade target, i noticed that after crusading on Cordoba i couldn't pick any other Moorish settlement for Crusades any more during the game and i noticed all their other settlements where small castles, villages, motte and bailey etcetera.

    Same thing with France, Paris and Toulouse are available targets but the smaller settlements where not.

    I think the reason Jerusalem, vilnius and Cairo are almost always available is because its programmed that way and ofcourse because Cairo and Jerusalem are the Holy lands and because Paganism in Europe just wasn't acceptable.

    I think it's because Cairo is probably the most powerful Muslim settlement in the game, so it's a second priority after Jerusalem, then there's Constantinople, then Antioch, then Tolouse.
