Is there any unit that rivals the dismounted gothic nights?

Ive tried several custom battles but i cant seem to find anything that can beat this unit one on one. If nothing else rivals them in terms of power is there something about them that limits their effectiveness?

The thing about the Dismounted Gothic Knights is that originally they were online/custom battle only. You couldn't get them in the campaign. I think many people wanted that, so SS added them to the rosters. There are very few infantry with such a high level of armor, and even fewer that can survive the assault of these elite shock infantry.

I don't know if anything can beat them 1v1. So if you come across them on the battlefield, make sure you outnumber them. Crossbowmen should help thin their ranks, and if you need to, a good heavy cavalry charge from the side/rear will defeat them like any other unit.

Wrong. I tested my Dis. Gothic Knights against pikemen and they slaughtered the pikemen, even with max armor. Heavy AP infantry such as the Venetian Heavy Infantry must have max armor as well, or they get crushed. 2H AP infantry like the Dismounted Noble Knights of France also have to be upgraded if they want to dominate the knights, otherwise it's a close battle.

France and England especially had men armoured just as well.
Add to this the fact that italian armour factories produced most german or italian flavours of armour for europe anyway.

They do. Armored Swordsmen are almost as heavily armored, as well as Venice's Dismounted Men-At-Arms. Just because the units don't have the gothic sallets don't mean they have inferior armor. However, France prized its cavalry, so the most wealthy knights (the nobles) fought on horseback.

Really though, gothic knights are and should be the best you can get....
HAving said this most european nations should have full plated knights like this available. France and England especially had men armoured just as well.

Did some more tests and you guys are right. Janissary can beat them. As for pikes, they can only beat them if you are on an incline. In flat grassy areas pikes are no match.
