CNN sued for $1.3 billion, $1 per person in China

Jack Cafferty's comments on CNN:

Cafferty said the United States imported Chinese-made "junk with the lead paint on them and the poisoned pet food" and added: "They're basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years".

Now some Chinese are suing CNN for $1.3 billion, $1 per Chinese person. I know we had a topic on this before, but I think this is amusing:

Six lawyers were handling the case for Liang and Li, it said.

"The $1.3 billion averages out to $1 per Chinese person, so it isn't much," the newspaper quoted a lawyer as saying.

Because everytime a government is insulted, the offending party has to give the entire populace of that nation $1 each.

If this was a real policy, I would be collecting lots of money as a citizen of the United States.

I understand why China would want to sue. The news is suppose to be objective, without bias. That means you don't go around slurring an entire nation. It does not matter if the nation is bad, you state the facts. Period.

However, I'm vehemently against China actually doing this. Once the precedent has been set that its alright to sue United states news agencies, other nations will do the same. Suddenly any news agency who steps out of line will get their ass slapped with a lawsuit.

It's effectively cutting out some free speech in a nation you are not even a part of. Disgusting. On both cases, but more so for China. What CNN and other news agencies do are accepted by the populace- so be it. China on the other hand...
