Toronto Star - Transit strike averted
http://www.thestar.com/article/416592
The Toronto Transit Commission has recently been awarded a new deal to avert a transit strike in the city of Toronto. The new deal involves TTC workers to earn $29.05/Hour by the third year.
To me, that's a ridiculous amount to pay someone to drive a bus. The excess spending is incredible. In Canada, we pay workers that much to do the jobs most machines could do, such as collecting coins. This is especially irritating that the City of Toronto always cries poor, yet makes terrible decisions such as this. Although this is more of a local Toronto issue, I thought I could open up the debate to about unions in general, city finances etc.
1. Is $29.05/Hour a fair salary for TTC workers?
2. Is the TTC Worker's Union abusing its power?
3. Should the TTC be an essential service?
4. Do you support Unions?
